I know the P2000 is an updated version of the USP, and the ergonomics are far superior, but how do they compare against each other?

Top Gun Supply has the USPc .40 with the LEM and Night Sights for around $750 after shipping. I know the USPc has a reputation for ruggedness and reliability.

I like how the P2000 feels and points and its smooth edges make it look easy to carry. From reading I have done it sounds like it is more prone to rust and having issues due to sand.

I would also like to get a P2000sk later for off duty and hiking. Would it be a gross difference in switching between a USPc and P2000SK?

I am open to either 9mm or .40. The DA/SA is ok on the USP, but on the P2000 I tried it was atrocious, so I want the LEM.

I like the P30 too, but I would have to relearn my grip due to the slide release lever length.

What variant LEM is the best for a duty weapon? V1 seems a tad light.

USPc:

Proprietary rail
Non adjustable grip

P2000:
Universal rail
Adjustable grip

Size wise, they are about the same. If you are looking for LEM, the LEM on the USP is the BEST LEM available on any HK pistol. Given a choice between the two, I'd save the money and get the USP Compact with standard LEM.

The P30 trumps both and the grip can be adjusted with practice as to not interfere with slide release.

Not to sound obtuse, but I've owned both the USP C & P-2000, and prefer the P-30 by a huge margin.

Well great, now I am thinking about the P30 now. haha

Would the P2000sk be a good back up for this?

The P30 and SK have identical manual of arms, so yes. Also, you can put a P2K slide release in the P30 and it makes a huge difference.

I have a P2000, P2000Sk and a P30.
They are all pretty much identical function wise.

With the P2000 and P2000Sk I prefer the flat magazine floorplates, those finger rest monstrosities gotta go. They add nothing to the ergonomics, detract from concealability and slow down your reloads because it's more difficult to get your index finger consistently on the magazine face.

There are currently more holster options for the P2000, but the P30 selection is pretty good.

The biggest drawback is the lack of sight options.
C'mon Ameriglo make me a set of Hackathorn sights, C'mon Trijicon, make me a HD sight set.
Throw me a bone here!

The pistol that spends the most time out of the safe is my P2000Sk.
I carry it AIWB with a 10 round mag, and it goes on my nightstand with a X-grip'd 13 round mag and TLR-3.
It's pretty much my do it all pistol.

Unless you are a customs officer assigned to maritime duty and never clean your duty weapon you'll never see an issue with rust.
I've never had an issue with sand and I live in the freakin desert.
The USBP academy is just down the road (in the freakin desert) and they don't have any issues with sand.

I trimmed, reshaped, polished and cold blued my slide stop lever.
No more issues with my thumb interfering with it, and I don't have to change my grip.

Thanks for the pic, I was curious as to how much of a difference there was.

No issues with the P2k lever I assume (or you wouldn't still have it on there)? I didn't know that they were interchangeable since I've heard the P30 lever is a bit more "captive" than the P2k and comes off slightly differently?

The P30 on the left I got in January and have put 2,850 rounds through it without issue. The one on the right I've had for over a year (I don't have an accurate round count for it) and have had no issues with it either.

The P30 lever has a notch in the pin that the TRS arm rests in. That's all that keeps it captive. If you lift up on the arm with a small screwdriver the lever will pop right out. To put the P2K lever in, I just oil the tip of the pin and it slides right in.

I didn't feel like spending $45 and waiting a month on a lever.
My way took 15 minutes and cost me nothing.
I've got no patience.

I can get a USPc .40 LEM with NS shipped to my FFL for $699. While I like the idea of the P30, this deal is hard to pass up.

I think the differences come down to the grip and the rail. If you've handled and shot a USPc before and you're fine with the grip then that shouldn't matter. Some say the USP grip is "blocky" but I like them just fine myself.

Then there is the rail. Do you plan on using a light on it? If not then it's not an issue. There are also adapters for the USP rails that'll make them work with the "standard" rail system used by everyone now.

Other than that, they are mechanically very similar and durability & reliability are probably the same.

The grip in the USPc is slightly shorter than the P30, so it may be slightly easier to conceal but then again that depends on the person usually.

My thumb safety equipped P30 allows me to get a good grip with my thumb raised up high enough to avoid hitting the slide lock.

I highly recommend the P2000 over the USP Compact due to the ergos alone. The magazines are interchangeable as well.

I was planning on purchasing a P2000 as my CCW, but my friend offered to sell me his USP.40 Compact LEM, Meprolight NS, and 3 mags for $500.

No regrets.

Agree. My P30 was more accurate than the P2000.
