Wondering if you can shed some light on why this round isn't on the recommended list. From what I can tell it was chosen in 2017 as the round for the FBI, is it just a matter of you not having first hand experience with the round in testing?

I have been striking out trying to find 180 Gr. Speer Gold Dot G2 online and want to get the best barrier blind ammunition that I can for carry. I can find HST 180 or Speer Gold Dot 165 at a good price of $40 per box of 50, which I believe would make a fine choice also but concerned may not be as barrier blind. There will be a lot of carry time in vehicles so this is a big factor of my choice.

Thoughts here, Doc?

Well.....regarding the 175 CD, we might have a bit of "first hand experience with the round in testing".

If you like the CD, go for it, as it is OK. Likewise HST 180 works great, as does 180 GD.

Thanks! The .40's Hornady published windshield test got me figuring it serves as a decent "field load" for the caliber if one isn't sure FMJ's are build stout anymore or one doesn't go in for "unusual" loads like light for caliber and expensive Leihigh or the hard cast that awkward around Glocks and have manifested feeding issues in some guns.

Debating what to use if I carry my CQB in deer season, .45 CD load or HST. Won't really matter I suppose.

On deer, I'd say it matters little if it begins with a 4.... assuming there are no intermediate barriers or extreme distances.
