Since Spegel's are pretty much unubtanium, any good alternatives for some nice wood J and K Frame grips?

For wood? Altamont, Hogue, Eagle for mass produced solutions. Keith Brown, Herrett's, NILL for custom solutions.
If you want a good Spegel alternative that can be non-wood VZs are very similar, a tad slimmer in the cross section, to Spegel's boot grips and are basically my go-to.

Spegel’s are my favorites by a long shot. And yes, I once bought a 442 I didn’t need just because I wanted the Spegel grips on it. But I also love Herrett’s designs. If the iPad was less wonky about letting me select pics I’ve already uploaded I’d post both here now.

Save the pic to your iPad. Do these things and then select and upload the pic.

Not sure if it’s a safari issue or what...

It won’t let me drag and drop the pics I already have on PF.

Anyway.... here’s a pic of Herrett’s I frame grips on a J frame and Spegel’s on a K frame.
Had to upload the pic again to do this.
blues has some great looking Hogue G10’s on a j frame here recently too.

Not nearly as pretty, but the G-10 Bantams (Piranha) are same size replacements as the OEM rubber boot grips that come on the current 642's and similar models. The G-10 has a nice texture without being overly aggressive.

You might call to get on the list (he quoted me about 3 years... a year and a half ago). In the meantime, get something else to hold you over.
I really like my Hogue Bantam Grips. I have 3 sets in Cocobolo.

Those do look really nice. How big are your hands and where does your pinky rest?

Seems like Altamont is a bargain also. I like the ones with no texture or decoration.
I have several variations on all the J-Frames, as well as three on the K/Ls.

Altamont sells their seconds on Gunbroker for a very hefty discount.

Dude, I had the exact same problem. I found a work around, but I can’t remember how I did it.

Size 10 Glove. My pinkie wraps under the bottom corner of the grip.

Another CPK fan? My Dad gave me a 6in Utility Fighter a couple years back (hell of a gift!) and that spent the better part of my 2019-2020 deployment either on my belt, inside my waistband, or on my IOTV. Made short work of a LOT of tough jobs and it still looks basically unused. Simply a fantastic blade.

Yeah, I just talked to Craig a couple weeks back and he pushed back my next order date by an additional 18 months. I am glad I over-bought last time that I had a chance. I am a sucker for the high horn Centennial grips.
I’ll begin by saying that I have no experience with real Spegels, but for me, the most shootable j-frame grips I have had are the uncle mikes rubber versions.
I recently picked up a pair of Hogue bantam boots in cocobolo and found the flat bottom to be uncomfortable for my pinky to wrap under, and I also found speedloader clearance to be inadequate. On the plus side, the added girth puts my trigger finger in a better place.

Gripmaker you might want to look at is Herrett's and the grip is their Detective model.

How's that feel with magnums?

Better than the Ahrends did, as my finger doesn't land on the peak of the finger groove.

Let me know if you ever want to get rid of a set of ahrends

I love Spegels and I have a few; I would have more if I could. My most carried J frame is a 642 with a crimson trace laser boot grip. Ahrends made a nice boot grip. Precision Gun Specialties makes a very nice inexpensive boot grip for both J frames and K frames. At $20 bucks they are worth buying a few. Check eBay for Rogers/safariland grips. Exotic grips by Esmerelda look like Spegel copies. She used to be significantly cheaper

This.
I can’t speak to J-frames, but all six of my K-frame RBs revolvers wear the Spegel-designed Uncle Mikes.

The only ones I have are on my SB Model 15.

Craig Spegel designed those for Uncle Mikes.
