I've seen various photos and posts about people's Leather Gear, but not a specific thread for it. If I'm wrong feel free to correct my error moderators.

My Fancy Leather consists of my Milt Sparks VM2 with Shark Loops which I added to it. It works for both my High Power and my Springfield Ronin. A Milt Sparks Horsehide and Shark 55BN for the High Power as well as one for the Springfield Ronin. The magazine pouches are shark trimmed and the belt is full shark from Palmetto Leatherworks, which Wilson Combat had in stock. There's something classy about custom leather and custom pistols.

Great thread idea! I’ve long wanted some floral carved leather but it doesn’t seem appropriate for the plastic pistols I carry. The fanciest holster I have is a Sparks 55BN in the mahogany cowhide.

I really want a floral carved holster for a 4" Smith model 15 (I don't have one yet), or maybe for my 4" model 10 or 64.

The top one is carved in the Sheridan pattern and then sun dried afterwards. I call it my "Bucket List" holster. It is without question the nicest holster I have ever had. The guys at the Sparks shop say that people have bought them for collectors purposes and I get that, but I have taken mine elk hunting, and will use mine as much as I can, wherever I can, every year.

The other is a 50th Anniversary Summer Special. I wear it pretty often. It is just a cool rig.

In fact I mentioned the other day that when I went to Costco I grabbed my old 80 Series Colt. Well that was the holster I used.

Plus I just like it as a daily rig:

This 55BN for my 7.5" Flattop Blackhawk .44 is another that has been around a little too.

From northern Nevada, to some higher elevations in central Idaho during elk season, it has put in a couple miles on my belt.

The first pic was taken by Nick's wife (Mrs Milt Sparks) at the 50ths anniversary invitational a couple years ago. The rig I was wearing was made by them in 1999 and worn by me at my wedding under my tux suit jacket. I carried a 70S Colt at my wedding. 20+ years later The belt, holster and pouches are all still in great shape. Better shape than I am with all the hardware in me, which is something that the guy standing next to me knows something about too, as he has had his share of surgeries. But I think his retirement package after he sells Thunder Ranch will be pretty comfortable. :)

Yes! I'm instantly transported 40yrs back to being a kid again reading all the slicks about all the guns I'm gonna grow up and shoot someday. Two-tone 1911's have a similar effect.

Those are Herrett's.

They are probably my favorite 1911 grip. They are just the right blend of smooth surface and diamond pattern, where when it rubs against your bare skin under a shirt it does not rub you raw carrying all day. Yet when you need to really grip it, it is plenty aggressive enough. Plus it is classic "Old School". Love them.

I had Alex do a custom belt holster for a Colt 1903 last year - a gift for my Dad. Seemed every bit a gentleman and dedicated to the art.

I love me some Kydex, but the leather he produces has history that some folded over plastic cannot match.

Can you wear those together, without the ammo pouch interfering with the other revolver?

I'm just getting into leather and starting to prefer it to Kydex. My only decent looking holster from a respectable maker so far is my Kirkpatrick Leather Texas Strongside for my P2000SK I happened upon on eBay. Getting ready for colder weather carry.

Can you wear those together, without the ammo pouch interfering with the other revolver?

Yes, plenty of room on me.

The problem with me carrying a revolver behind the hip is that I loose that little gap ahead of a aiwb holster that is the perfect spot for a Safariland cd-2 pouch flipped iwb. So I either do a bullet slide or speed loader in the front right pocket.

Sadly the closest thing I have to a "fancy" leather holster; your everyday Milt Sparks Summer Special II:

79115

I have a much fancier JRC Watson coming, hopefully relatively soon in the next month or two...I'm really looking forward to getting it in and running it through it's paces!

As an aside, I've tried the MS VMII several times for a 1911...it just doesn't work right for me for some reason; I don't know if it's the smooth leather or what but it never stays put, and my pants/belt always sag with it (even with a Wilderness w/kydex insert). The SSII seems much more planted and much less prone to moving/sagging. With the VMII I had to cinch down the belt to the point where I felt like I was always 20 minutes after eating an enormous Thanksgiving dinner...with the SSII, I don't need to tighten things down quite so much. I guess it's another one of those "everyone's different" things.

This is the only leather holster I have right now, the holster is trimmed in elephant and I have a belt to match. It is from a defunct company (Rafter S), and it is just an slightly better than OK quality. I had a Ayoob Rear Guard holster for a SIG P228 that I let go when I traded the 228 for a 230 (boy that was dumb) that was a much better holster.

Just took an 7 hr. trip each way to Blue Ridge GA. for my wife's birthday. Great trip and a very nice relaxing area. While I know and understand the limitations of shoulder holsters, it's pretty tough to beat a quality shoulder holster for being seated for a long time. I switched to my Milt Sparks 55BN once we were there. I was testing out the Miami Classic as I'm looking at 2 surgeries on my abdomen and my lumbar spine soon, so i wanted a proven method of carry once I'm able to resume carry. Worked really well. I had a couple Miami Classics over the years. One was for my duty 4506 and one was for my duty Glock 22. This one is actually for my P320/M18 but as I have discovered works great for my 229E2.

Thanks. I intend to put it through the paces. I have been looking for a good leather AIWB holster. Once I saw Del Fatti's ISP-A2 I was smitten. Alas he does not make holsters for my guns and his years long wait times are beyond my patience. I contacted Nightingale Leather Co. about making me something similar to the ISP-A2. I also contacted Overland Gunleather. In the end Overland's leadtime was much shorter so I went with him. The owner, Adam Bon, is a class act and very responsive to my many emails. This is my first custom leather holster and I very impressed with it.

I made this for my Black Mamba to shoot Steel Challenge Matches. It's a .22 but I don't like having to put it in a bag after every stage.

Lost River,

Who did the Smith sight on that Colt? Got another pic of it that shows the sight and how it sits in the slide? I'm an old dude and love the old school N frame sights on a 1911.

And just in case you weren't sure, you totally suck. Two such fine pistolas in a row?

Excuse the fact that it is pretty dirty, been carrying it daily.

The Smith sight was already installed, as well as the fitted bushing and single side slightly larger thumb safety. Someone had done some exceptionally fine work.

The gent I purchased it from stated that the owner at the time was a widow of a south Texas Deputy, who had carried it. The build reminded me of work by Swenson at the time as there were a few guys who copied his work and did a very nice job as well. Trying to see where the old rear sight dovetail is after the filled it in and reblued it is a pretty good indication of this.

I had my own smith add a number of things for me to make it more shootable for me, including a long trigger, S&A magwell, and recently a Dawson F.O. front sight, as well as do some work to make sure it would feed everything from my heavy loads, to SWC and JHP type profiles. The pistol shoots quite accurately.

:)

I took some better photographs of my Thad Rybka holster and magazine pouch. This holster just oozes quality. The only other quality holster I have, a 5 Shot Leather 1911 holster, was given to me by a friend and the Thad Rybka is on par with that in quality. The wait for the holster, after I sent him my check, was only a few weeks. I think the OTD price for the holster and magazine pouch was about $145.

I'm pretty sure it was called the Heritage. It was a liner version of the Summer Special

The OWB liner version was the Nelson Legacy or NLG which was a liner version of the 55BN. I think the NLG was FBI canted only, and didn't have a mouth reinforcement.

Dang!

That is a good memory! It is very smooth and comfortable to carry. I know that the vast majority like the wider versions of the holsters that spread out/distribute the weight over a wider area, and that makes perfect sense, especially with a heavy gun like a 5" steel framed Government Model, but I have come to find that I tend to grab the old school Summer Special and the one above frequently. Much like my old J frame 442, certain guns and leather are trusted companions.

Jason Burton of Heirloom Precision ( https://www.heirloomprecision.com ) has the same feeling as you, and prefers the smaller profile holsters like the Summer Special and 5-Shot IBS over the wider footprint holsters like the VM II.

Not super fancy, but newly arrived. Andrews Custom Leather McDaniel ll. I was kind of on the fence about the single loop located that far back when I ordered, but I can say in the two weeks I've had it, I am extremely satisfied. The quality is excellent, and the retention is exactly how I like it. Did not require use of a plastic bag to make it slick enough to draw from, but it does have an audible "snick" when it seats all the way in. Almost sounds like kydex clicking.

Not really fancy leather, but I made a few holsters this week.

The first one is a copy of a civilian half-flap holster for a 1860 Colt. The second one is a Threepreson’s holster for a Smith & Wesson 625. I need to change up a few things on the Threepersons holster and from now on I will use a strap instead of the thumb loop. But it will work for a woods gun.

I'll bet I have a dozen holsters for my K frames. This is the latest. It's designed for speed shooting and I use it for Steel Challenge and my 617. You don't draw .22s but I'd rather carry in a holster than having to bag and unbag between stages. My bag just carries my extra ammo, cleaning gear and screwdriver with spare parts. That's enough.

I keep my speed loaders on my belt so that I can reload between strings.

I have always tried to set her up with quality gear that will last her, instead of cheap stuff that kids often get. Bearing in mind that I am not exactly wealthy, sometimes this takes a bit of doing to make that happen.

It's been posted on here before that when she was little, she started doing mounted cowboy action shooting. Most people get Italian clone SAAs. She used the guns owned by her coach for a while. Then when it was time for her to buy her own, I got her a matched pair of Ruger Montados. which a 3.5" .45 Colt Vaqueros, and had them sent off to a guy who specializes in building custom guns for the sport. The guns have an amazing action job and the barrel cylinder gap is set so they will not jam up after a dozen black powder based loads have gone through it.

Age 11 at Christmas:

https://i.imgur.com/VmGUrZ7.jpg

Today she is still using those same Rugers and due to that, has never had to upgrade. More than a few people have tried to buy the pair of them off of her.

https://i.imgur.com/9ogkbQC.jpg

This is a pic when was old enough to hunt where she used my Tikka T3 6mm Remington.

She dropped this doe at 200 yards with a bullet right behind the shoulder as instructed:

https://i.imgur.com/V0JwJKa.jpg

Since she like it, I decided it was time to invest some effort into a good rifle for her.

I set her up with a T3 in 308 and an SWFA. Essentially a "One gun to rule them all" type rifle. I explained to her that with this rifle she can kill everything from elk, mule deer and moose to coyotes and badgers and would never need another rifle.

https://i.imgur.com/pHkhMAG.jpg?1

When she turned 18 I gave her a 1950s era Marlin Model 39 Mountie that I had driven to central Montana to pick up. She loves cowboy stuff/ John Wayne and used to ask me to rack the lever guns whenever I had one out of the safe, so I picked her up her own Mountie. I have my own well used Mountie, and while it will eventually be passed down, that day is not here yet. :)

So longer story short, for a "lifetime" .22, she received a Marlin Mountie and a new Japanese built weaver, that was sighted in at 50 yards.

https://i.imgur.com/xRRDxKu.jpg?1

Back to the .357 and holster, the kiddo also talked me out of my Schrade Sharp Finger.

Figure she should be set with that as a knife-gun, belt combo.

She knows to carry the first 2 chambers as snake shot, then the next 4 as 170 grain Keith hard cast .357s.

She has also been instructed on my ear hole to eye hole method on putting large animals down, case of an emergency.

I: That holster looks to have real promise. Please work with it a bit and share your impressions.

The Overland AIWB holster was the most comfortable holster I have encountered for AIWB carry of my P2000SK. Sadly the double belt loops were too bulky to conceal and I could not find a suitable replacement attachment. I ended up selling it to fund the JRC CDA-II above. I gave some recommendations to the owner of Overland Gunleather regarding improvements to his AIWB design. He said thanks for the feedback and he would incorporate my suggestions. So hopefully it will be better in the end. I loved a lot about that holster.

This one arrived Friday and I've worn it since I got home. Comfy, comfy rig and getting more so as it breaks in.

Your not the first person to comment that the Executive Companion is a super comfy holster.

I have an Overland Gunleather Stiletto (horsehide with DCC Monoblock) IWB holster on order for my P2000SK. I'm wondering if I should go with their Blade holster if it would be more comfortable. Hmmm....

I had a few over the years, and they are quite comfy. They’re only gone because the guns that fit them were gone.

Come to think of it, I believe I still have one for my G30. Wish I still had the one for the 92C.

I got a call from Sparks, and was all excited. It turned out to be a courtesy call because my Special Edition Axiom is taking a little longer, it’s not a good time of year to be sun tanning leather in Idaho.

Fun old holster with little information I could find in the internet. Marked “ALESSI,” rides between the belt and pants.

I just finished a AIWB rig for my Smith & Wesson Model 19. I felt bad keeping it in a Kydex holster, even though it is an excellent JM Custom holster.

I wanted something that mixed a little old school and a little modern to keep it in from time to time.

I finished it with a basketweave stamp even though you won’t be able to see it when I am actually wearing it.

My 15-3 with a Andrews Saddle Holster and Don Hume Pack Six Speedloader pouch. Very well made holster. I got it from his ready made options.

My new Tisas Carry and Leather. If I included the Shark Belt, I think the Leather costs as much as the pistol...
