Kind of steep for an SP2022 but German made French police marked SP2022's are an interesting collectible.

I bought one of those a few years ago for $250-ish. Even adjusted for inflation, another $800 seems a bit much.

Only dropped once?

(I’m a quarter French, so I can say that.)

It’s too bad SIG didn’t build out the SP2022 line more. I really like mine.

Another fan of the SP2022 here. Extremely underrated DA/SA 9mm.

I strongly considered an SP2022 when I wanted a plastic 9mm DA/SA. In the end, I went with a USP9c, which is a great gun, but I might pick up one of the Sigs sometime.

Did the exact same thing.

I've also considered adding a 2022 to the stable a few times. But not for $1000+. That's PX4 with LTT trigger job territory.

Yeah, the $375 I paid two years ago was about my comfort level. Then again that was US production - German must be worth a premium.

Wow, I had no idea they dipped below 300. That's pretty extreme.

This was in a LGS owned by a buddy of mine. Both the buddy and the shop have a no-bullshit attitude about little-known gear.

The last new Sp2022 I bought was $375 in 2014.

I don't see paying over $1,000 for a "historic" 1-of-250,000 German-made, French Police contract pistol.

The 2022 is about the only Sig I’d even think about buying. But that’s stupid expensive.

If anybody finds them around $650 with French Markings I am game!

Inflationary price aside, those are nice pistols. The French liked them enough to re-up on their order around 2 or 3 years ago with another 580. I think the contract price for the full kit was around 430€ per unit.

My dad bought a 2340 way back when...it was an outstanding pistol actually.

I should buy a 2022...at the LGS maybe...definitely not for 1,000 bucks though.

The 2022 I had was a very good pistol. I could not stop riding the slide release, though, and that bugged me. And the pinches I got doing reloads made me decide that it wasn’t where I wanted to be for my pistol, so I sent it down the road.

I didn't have much of an issue with the slide stop (prior Sig experience), but: if you have XL-sized hands, good luck finding the large grip module for it...shooting it for me was like trying to squeeze a tic-tac between my index finger and my palm with the factory (medium) backstrap. Admittedly the one that I had also had the Sig "thin" trigger in it, so it was really set up for people with smallish hands..I just couldn't find the parts to make it more appropriately sized for me. This was 2018-ish I think; tried it for a few months and moved it on. I doubt the parts situation has improved with them..

It's a shame too, because that's one Sig that I really actually liked. Just about the perfect size, the trigger was actually really good out of the box, good capacity, etc.

The parts situation definitely hasn't improved with them. Of the grip modules, I'd actually say the size Small is the hardest to find, though the size Large isn't exactly easy either. Short triggers are also pretty hard to find. Other than that some of the typical wear items like springs aren't too terribly hard to find, for now at least. You can even find the occasional spare hammer pack. I'd definitely stock up on some of the wear items for anyone that plans on keeping theirs forever, because the situation certainly won't improve.

Did they have to etch “Legacy Sports International” on the frame? Is that requirement for importation?

‘Cause it sort of detracts from the French markings.

Imported guns have been required to be marked with the name city and state of the importer since the gun control act of 1968.

They're well constructed and I would probably still own the two I had if I also didn't get pinched all the time. If the grip were as long as a P226 it would be perfect for me. Bruce Gray said they "shoot like little rifles" and did or still does carry one himself. I believe it, I've seen him shoot incredibly small groups off-hand.

When my former agency transitioned from the 9mm to .40 back in the day, we were going to stay with SigSauer. The decision was 226, 229, or 2340. We frequently trained with a neighboring agency and their lead instructor urged us to adopt the 2340 which they had just gone to. We looked at the 2340, but it seemed to have sharper edges and could catch the meat of one's palm on a fast reload. We ended up staying with the 226 for many years. The other agency quickly transitioned to the 229 for reasons never made clear to me.

In retrospect or currently, good decision, bad decision, or jump ball? The SigPro was adopted by a few other Maryland agencies, but I don't think anyone is still issuing them.

I'd love to see how many of these they actually sell at this price.

I think in normal times, they get absolutely zero takers. However, in this era of north of $2,000 Colt pythons the old ones, Midway selling out of M1 carbines in a matter of minutes at a price of $1,500 if not more, and people spending crazy amount of money on older Smith & Wesson revolvers, Anything is Possible.

There are plenty of SIG fanatics who only believe that guns made in Germany, and some specifically only West Germany, are worth a darn.

Are they willing to pay a $1000 to back that claim up?

I'd be interested in grabbing one of these... but not at that price.

Are we to assume the French are dumping their SP2022s now? Maybe we'll see more of these?

Edit: I'm thinking these might be brand-new guns. But, of course, they didn't think to note that in the listing.

If by "The French" you mean the big national and municipal police forces - no.

Looks like a small batch from some small department like most of the recent small batches of French police revolvers.

Yes. Whatever French agency(ies) purchased six-figure amounts of these things.

I think the "2022" was meant to reflect the year until which they were to remain in service. So... you think they'll keep using them past next year?

They just ordered more. So yes.

My agency was supposed to replace our P229s in 2015 but we didn't actually do it till 2020.

Gotcha. I heard they were well-received by the French. So that makes sense.

They are on a roll trying to get rid of all of these German pistols.

The only LDC I've handled was a crap show. Not totally unprecedented Sig tragedy of a very nice gun let down by lame tolerance control.

Not sure what you're referring to-what's "LDC?" Are you talking about a SP 2022 or 2340/2009??

ccmdfd's link goes to a place selling the P226 LDC - "Long Dust Cover." It's an all-stainless version with a full-length dust cover (like the Arex Rex Zero 1) that adds a little front-end weight, a couple notches on the Sig rail, and if you're into dropping your gun in the mud and sand before shooting it, it may be more resistant to dragging said mud and sand into the slide/rail interface and either locking up or destroying the slide and rails. Pretty unusual gun. Oddly enough, the place I found it was Skagit Arms, right at the corner of I-5 and Highway 20. Fun little shop to check out if you're ever up that way.

Just pointing out that Sportsmans is expecting people to shell out mucho $ for German made SIG's.

Yeah, you could get like four brand new Tikka T3x Superlites for what they want for that one used pistol that won't have the future collector value of one that doesn't have all the extra billboarding. Or two Tikkas and nice glass for both of them.

I handled one at my local Sportsmans Warehouse; it's pretty much a standard SP2022 with white contrast von Stavenhagen bar-dot sights and a lanyard loop attachment in the butt. The French police attestation was a one-liner molded in the right receiver dustcover.

Nice gun, but not worth the excessive tarriff in my opinion (but you could certainly do worse these days in the $1K niche...

Best, Jon
