This is totally depressing on so many levels. First, the fact that the violence is no endemic that it makes no news and is accepted as inevitable. Second, that there are no real efforts to eliminate the violence other than ever-increasing calls for further gun control. Third, that we as a nation are so inured to the violence that we can joke about it and bet on it. Fourth, if those four homicides from last night by 10:00 PM happened anywhere else, it would be national news. Yet we hear no outcry.

Why does Chicago get a pass? President Trump was right to single out Chicago for federal LE support, especially if that support was aimed at dismantling the gangs. This happened one before when the mob was blowing up people and cars in the 1970s. Federal LE got involved and gutted the mob. That level of effort needs to be repeated on a national scale with the gangs.

Chicago is very segmented. Most areas are quite safe, but the dangerous areas are really rough. Part of the recent problem has been large groups of dirtbags coming down into the tourist and shopping areas to raise hell.
