Hello all,
I'm from California and I'm currently in a wait period for one of these:

Smith & Wesson TRR8!
On August 2nd, I'll pick her up and she'll be all mine.
I've done my fair share of research and drooled over this gun a long time. Finally!
I just wanted to see if any owners or previous owners of this fine wheel gun have any "need to know"s for me.
Thanks in advance.

Just shoot it! :D

Only slight issue is that shooting copious quantities of .38 Special can leave a ring of carbon and lead in the chambers. If this develops, just chuck a .41 0r .44 bore in an electric drill and buff it out.

Ditch the factory moonclips and use the ones from TK Custom (http://www.tkcustom.com/cart/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=196&cat=.38+Special%2F.357+Magnum+-+6+%26+8+Shot%3C%2Fp%3E%3Cp%3ELarge+N++-+Frame+Models%3C%2FP%3E). The factory clips aren't very stable and you'll get a lot of wobble in your rounds. The aftermarket clips, especially the HearthCo Match clips are much, much better. Yes, they're $60 for a box of 10, but you'll be glad you spent the extra cash.

You'll also want a moonclip tool (http://www.tkcustom.com/cart/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=79&cat=.38+Spl+%2F+.357+Magnum+-+S%26W++Moon+Clip+Tool#) for easy loading, and a a demooner (http://www.tkcustom.com/cart/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=47&cat=S+%26+W+-+Unloading+Tools) for getting brass out of moonclips. All of those goodies (10 moonclips, loading tool, demooner) add up to about $120 extra bucks, but believe me they'll pay for themselves in time saved and less damage to your thumbs. Plus, they extend the life of your clips because you're less likely to bend one of them. If you want to shoot matches with it, you're pretty much limited to ICORE or shooting it in USPSA Production, which if you try the latter automatically earns you 1,000 Awesome Points.

Are those guns cut for moon clips from the factory? I thought it was a standard .357.

Yes.

(And since .357 is a rimmed round, they'll work fine with or without moons.)

I have one of those with an Aimpoint on it. Very accurate and fun to shoot, but holsters are very rare for it.

I use a chunk of Chore Boy brass pad wrapped around a wet nylon brush to remove gunk.

Shoot this gun!!! It's very good.

I use 5Star Firearms speed loaders. I prefer them over the Thunder Ranch and HKS loaders because you can index off the high points.

Simply Rugged and a few others make holsters for it.

I use Ranch Products moonclips and the tool from mooncliptool.com. Ranch Products' prices are reasonable (I think I paid $35 per 100, shipped--but that was 4 years ago). You need to call them; their website is terrible. Their stuff is good.
