So I stopped by my local gun stealer just to see what he had. I spotted this model 10 in is case. After a little haggling I bought the gun. $550 for the gun, a box of 38 ammo and a IWB holster. From what I can tell the gun was made in 1977 and the nickel Finish appears to be factory.

Great Score!

The classic .38 K frames are just about perfect. Everything you need and nothing you don't in a mid size revolver. I also really like the standard/"pencil" profile barrel on that one.

If you remove the grips, you should see “N” stamped on the grip frame which will confirm a factory nickel finish.

Even if it's not factory nickel, it looks like it was decently well done. It does look less shiny than I'm used to on factory guns.

Awesome, glad my fears were unfounded. :) Next step - targets! Then we can get into the holster discussion...

Add a grip adapter and it would be perfect.
Nice score!!

While many here like grip adapters, I do not find it particularly comfortable on the one gun on which I use one (2.5” Python for which there are no other options which keep the grip short). The finger groove design places my middle finger directly over the point rather than in one of the grooves. You have numerous replacement grip options for your gun, the vast majority of which are superior to a grip adapter.

Pachmayr solved that problem some time back but it was evdently not marketable enough to survive:

That grip adapter is nice, and I like the absence of finger grooves. Whoever designed the finger grooves all of the currently available grip adapters must have had fingers like a gorilla. I am not too surprised that it did not survive since many of Pachmayr's other offerings provide a better solution.
