I read about someone on here selling some early G19s in Mass. I have a buddy who is thinking of selling two, but he is not sure if they are the right generation. The first has a serial number AAV*** the second is AFM***.
Sorry for the crappy cell phone picture:

What gunshop was used in Mass?

AAV indicates May 1992 according to this list (https://www.glocktalk.com/threads/glock-serial-number-research-project-v4.1445829/).
(My December 1988 version began with DW)
AFM relates to a different gun on the list though.
I'd call Glock and ask them, they've been helpful with such in the past.

All Gen2s are sans finger grooves, right? What does MA say about what is allowed?
(Is this a question of what is legal in PRMA?)

Call Four Seasons and give them the serial number and they may know if it is saleable or not. Might be a good idea to call Glock first and get a born on date.

For private sales w/in MA the answer is "it doesn't matter what generation of Glock, yes". If he is not within MA, there are other considerations/approaches.

FFLs can only sell serial numbers made before a specific day in October, 1998 IIRC. Private sale between LTC holders? Don’t matter none.

Four Seasons gun shop in MA told me that all gen 2s (your pic is a gen 2) and some gen 3 are saleable there. Gen 3 serial numbers determine if legal or not.
