Massachusetts-based Smith & Wesson (https://www.guns.com/smith-wesson) on Monday announced it intended to divest the company of the Thompson/Center Arms (https://www.guns.com/search?keyword=thompson%20center) brand in the near future.
In a release, the publicly-traded company (NASDAQ: SWBI (https://www.nasdaq.com/market-activity/stocks/swbi)) said the move to sever the T/C branch of the storied American gunmaker was to better focus on core S&W brands.
Hopefully the buyer will be interested in offering more single-shot and blackpowder pistols and rifles. I believe S&W originally bought T/C for the barrel making capacity, not the product line.
While it is unlikely, I am hoping Sturm, Ruger is the buyer. The T/C line would fill a niche in Ruger's products, namely simpler single-shot pistol and rifles. While Ruger has the No. 1 on limited production, there are still people looking for a simple break-open design as well as primitive hunting tools. Imagine a Ruger Hawken paired with a Ruger Old Army.
