Dan Wesson PM-9 questions

I am looking at a DW PM-9 at LGS. Does anyone know if the 9mm has a ramped barrel? I’m assuming it does for feeding reliability. Also is the guide rod solid steel , full length, and one piece?

And do the DW 9mm mags run reliably or is it better to use a Wilson Combat ETM mag? I have read reviews saying these are extremely reliable.

Yes it will be a W/N ramped barrel. The factory mags arent bad I think they are checkmates. I also prefer wilson or Tripp research mags.

that's literally every gun. More people need to actually read the manual...

My specialist specified FP10 every 50 rounds untill around 500 before it was considered reliable, but that was their black finish, the stainless may be different.

The PM9 seems to be the go to for most Single stack minor gamers, so with that said I believe it should be pretty reliable.

I have a DW A2 5" parkerized 45acp. For break-in, I also used FP-10. There were several different lubricants recommended in the manual. No particular reason I chose FP-10. It is a thinner oil when compared with Lucas Extreme Duty gun oil. Just run it wet during break-in and you should be ok. Honestly I didn't clean after 50 rounds, it was more like every 100 rounds. But I did make sure I applied more lubricant a second time during the 100 rounds session. Not advising you to go against DW break-in recommendations.

I have Lucas extreme duty oil and their grease product and use on my Beretta 92 (not SS). It works well but a SS pistol may be more sensitive to specific lubricant. If they recommend Lucas, I’ll continue to use that if I get PM9

I've not had a lot of problems with my 9mm mags. The modern 1911 magazine out not to give you much drama if your gun is set up correctly. I use a lot of Metalform, WC, even MecGar mags for the 9mm 1911s. Metalforms are my go to I'd say. Especially the ones with the front ramp.

I suggest that with a DW you should follow the lube and break-in procedures in the manual literally. Some people have had bad results when they didn't.

Once through the break-in period normal 1911 maintenance procedures should apply.

And I also suggest any new pistol should be disassembled and properly lubed before shooting it the first time.

Militec-1, FP-10, or Dan Wesson rail lube is stated for use in the manual. Not recommended is Rem oil, CLP, or Hoppes Elite gun oil on gun rails. Since my A2 is broken in, I now use Lucas Extreme Duty gun oil. I also use this oil on my other pistols with no issues at all. I like this lube since it is a bit thicker than the FP-10. I use Lucas on my Beretta 92 as well. Works great!!

I dont have one, but have been around a lot of DW ;)

Lube it well stainless isnt forgiving if you dont.

I own several Dan Wesson's and all 9mm and 10mm pistols have ramped barrels. Food for thought, if you buy the PM-9, ditch the OEM magazines. They have a tendency for the follower to bind in front of the magazine catch when empty. All three of my 9mm's had this problem and now I use Wilson ETM's, exclusively.

Since the PM's are stainless on stainless, to avoid gauling, follow the recommended break-in procedures found in the manual and DO NOT USE GREASE ON THE RAILS.
