View Full Version : Does any company make a quality scope mount in a 1.7-1.8" height?

I have an IWI X95 Tavor and I found most optics meant for an AR sit around 1.5" tall which is just a hair too low for it. Right now I have an 4X ACOG with a kram spacer that puts it right around 1.7" and that is perfect. However I am thinking about getting a LPVO 1-6x of some variety to put on it but it looks like the only options I can find for 30mm single piece scope mount all come at 1.5" for standard height or 1.9" for NVG height which is just a bit too tall for my liking.

Does any company out there make a scope mount that is closer to that 1.7"

I know I could go with a spacer but that looks ugly and adds an extra point of failure with the mount that I'm trying to avoid.

Badger Ordnance makes a 1.7" mount.

It is a fantastic mount, but pretty hard to find these days.

https://www.rockriverarms.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_ID=1501 is the another choice besides the Badger for cantilever, though I'm not sure I would trust that any more than a quality mount with a quality riser.

EraTac has a non-cantilevered 34mm mount at 1.65" height, which should work fine with a Tavor, though you'd need a 34mm optic at that point.

If you opt for something with a 34mm tube, the American Defense RECON-M (https://www.admmfg.com/recon-m-1-piece-scope-mount-mid-with-2-offset) is 1.7". (It's 1.63" for 30mm.)

Been running the Badger Condition One mounts on some of our work guns (.308/5.56) AR platforms. I really like them.

Hard to find because they don't make it anymore or because everything is hard to find with the pandemic?

The pandemic plus just extremely high demand in general. It took me a few months to find mine.

Well that's slightly better than not making them I suppose.

Any recommendations for a riser that isn't ugly and is quality? I might end up going that route.

Depending on your intensed use for the gun and the optic you are using, I wouldn't completely rule out a 1.93" for that setup. I'm using my 1.7 for a more precision oriented gun where I could end up spending more time shooting from prone and 1.93 could get a bit uncomfortable for longer periods of time. For more general use setups 1.93" is fantastic and you'd likely adjust to it pretty quickly if you are using an optic with a forgiving eye box like a Razor or Kahles. Maybe less so with something like a Nightforce NX8 that is a little pickier about eye placement.

I guess I'd need to find an optic that works for it. I'm looking at the other thread on LPVOs right now. I am leaning towards a Trijicon Credo HX at the moment because it seems like a good value but I don't know what kind of eyebox it has. I'm really intending this to be a genereal purpose rifle; I think the AR will always be my go-to gun but I might want to run this in some matches just for fun which is why I"m thinking of switching from a ACOG with an RMR to a 1-6x.

I had this ACOG mount for a bit just to try it out:
https://www.admmfg.com/ad-b3-c-cantilever-acog-base-2

that brings the centerline up to 2.1" so that the ACOG could clear the rear sight and that felt comically tall. Maybe 1.9 wouldn't but the 1.7" setup I have on it now seem about ideal.

Yeah that's a pain. For example Manitcore makes this thing that replaces the entire top rail:
https://manticorearms.com/product/x95-overwatch-full-length-top-rail/

But they say it raises it "about 1/2 inch" which if true would mean my optic center line would be 2" over and at that point I might as well just buy a 1.9" mount.

I think I might just end up trying a 1.9" at this point to see how I like it and if I hate it I'll wait for that Badger mount.

Throw on the YHM 1/2 riser for 1.652", or the Bobro or LaRue riser for 1.777".

https://www.griffinarmament.com/30mm-sprm-mounts-0moa-all-heights/ has a 1.1" option.

I have all my LPVOs in 1.7” Badger COMM mounts. Yes they are hard to find, but get on several notification email lists. They are making them, but slowly like everyone else. I tried the 1.93” height for my LPVOs but found it was a little too high. The 1.7” is truly “just right” to be faster than a 1.5” but still comfortable in prone. You can always get a riser and a set of medium rings. Just check on the actual ring heights and you can get close to 1.7.”

I picked my Badger Ordinance mount from Weapon Outfitters.

Last I saw on another forum there were more on order. You may want to give them a call or send an email.

I mounted an NF NXS 1-4 in the 1.7 mount. Perfect height for myself, solid, and returns to zero. I think that my LMT would break in two before the mount would. Also, a standard ADM Recon mount mount with a 1/2 riser would put you at about the same height (real close). My Short Dot in an ADM mount on top of the 1/2 riser is about the same. Shooting off the bench the extra-height is nice.

P.S. It looks like they may have the Tan (FDE) color in stock, but it's not permitting me to add it to my cart. I am sending an email and calling on Monday. If they have them in stock, then I will order another one. I don't really care which color it is at this point. I have been a die hard ADM user (multiple mounts), but Badger Ordinance makes great mounts (non-detachable).

Update: I was able to add a 34mm mount to my cart. No Joy with the 30mm 1.7 Tan. It looks like only the Tan is in stock. My internet connection is fast and I am having problems with their website. I sent an email to confirm if the 1.7 mount is in stock.

Badger C1 is the best. They have a good mil/leo discount too.
