Please read the rules (http://pistol-forum.com/showthread.php?1837-Drill-of-the-Week) before participating in this thread.

Week 35: 3x5 in 5
results may be posted until 11:59pm EDT on Monday 16-July-2012.

Range: varies
Target: 3x5 card
Start position: concealed
Rounds fired: varies

Pick a distance you can successfully draw and fire 2 rounds into a horizontal 3x5 card in under 5 sec.

On the buzzer, draw and fire two rounds to the 3x5 card. Record your time and the number of hits you got.

If successful, add 1 yd to the distance from the target and repeat.

Keep running the drill (two hits in under 5 sec) and adding distance after each successful completion until you either miss the target or exceed the time limit.

Please report the following when responding to this thread:

Start position (pistol, holster type, concealment)
Start distance and time
Last distance successfully engaged and time

I decided to push the accuracy envelope (for me at least) by starting at 15 yards and shooting this cold.

Start position: Gen3 G34, in a Keeper, under a closed front shirt
Start distance and time: 15 yards, 2.80 seconds
Last distance and time: 16 yards, 3.17 seconds

Raw data:

15 yards: 2.80 seconds
16 yards: 3.17 seconds
17 yards: 3.61 seconds, missed one.
Over.

The target:

Continued shooting and pushing the 3x5 further out after failing out of the DotW proper.

Some misses, but for me, it wasn't bad.

Jumped the 3x5 all the way to 25 yards, and with a few reps of 'trying to take my time', wasn't hitting it.

Last rep, shot it the way that felt right, firing when my eyes, finger, and mind were ready, and shot 1.57, 90 = 2.47 clean.

Couldn't use the timer for anything other than start and par time signals - too much noise coming from other lanes. In addition, my range has no yardage, 5 feet marks up close and 10 feet marks further out are used instead. I ran this twice, cold and in a middle of the session.

Run # 1: 21 feet, 25 feet, 2 more positions between 25 and 35 feet, 35 feet all clean and under par, miss at approx 40 feet.
Run # 2: barely made it to 45 feet (clipped the edge of the target on one shot), and then miss at about 50.

P30 LEM in Kolbeson Texas Comfort AIWB under a shirt.

Food for personal thought:
- the shirt, as in one with buttons in the front, is quite a bit harder to draw from under than T-shirt;
- 35 feet and further on 3x5 I am not sure the pressout gets me a better results than just aiming and then pressing; need to test this out with a timer.

Thanks, but an RDS equipped pistol is almost like cheating on shots past 15 yds:

Speer Lawman 147 gr FMJ fired from S&W M&Pc 9mm w/ Ameriglo I-dot Pro's. Holstered in a Personal Security Systems IWB kydex pancake holster and concealed under a t-shirt.

I was short on time, so I went in three-yard increments instead of one.

Start: 7 yds/4.57s
Stop: 10 yds/4.56s (failed at 13 yds. 5.42s with 2 misses)

You should take that gun to GSSF and compete in the Unlimited division. You might do very well.

Although the targets might be a little on the big side for your taste (8" circle), you would appreciate the incredibly gnarly penalties for dropped shots (and no make up shots most of the time, either.)

I am an old, slow, mediocre shooter--I'll leave it up to you fast younger guys to bring home the gold medal or prize pistol.

We all have our strengths and weaknesses to be sure, but the I don't think the above performance is anywhere near mediocre with regard to the aspects of shooting tested in this DotW.

I did the drill as a PAR (turning target) so I don't have times.

Springfield Custom Shop 9mm 1911, Warren Tactical 3-dot tritium sights
From concealment (Keepers Custom Keeper)

Started at 5yd, drew, hit, reholstered, and still had to wait for the target to disappear.
Moved to 10yd, not much difference.
Moved to 15 yd, got hits but didn't feel it was too easy.
Adding one yard at a time, success at 16, 17, and 18 yards. Dropped my second shot at 19yd, anticipation.

S&W M&P9 Pro, Blade Tech IDPA holster, concealed under vest.
Started at 7 yards just to be safe. Made it to 13 yards before I put one barely outside the line, high.

I like this this drill, going to see if I can get to 15 yards.

Not sure why I can't edit my post and add to it, rater than polluting the thread. I ran it today just one more time, mainly because SecondsCount was running his and he had a functional timer. I just wanted to see if my results were reproducible, or I got lucky on Thursday.
15 yards, 3.86 clean from under the T-shirt.

Used a blading target (the 10mm on my left and AK47 on my right added great atmosphere contraindicated timer use). No issues at 7 and 10 yards, but dropped a shot at 15. My lane on this indoor range was dark due to some shot out lighting, which affected my typical 'drive the dot' sight picture.

Resisted the urge to use my RMR for this drill and instead fired a Glock 17 with Trijicon HD sights from a strongside Raven Concealment Phantom OWB from concealment (under a shirt).

FWIW I also shot last week's DOTW...11 tries/32.14 seconds.

My wife and I both cratered on this between 10-13 yards, were puzzled, and turned it into an exercise shooting every five yards on the 3x5 back to 25 yards. Figured out two things: 1) so much shooting at the 3x5 and dots from 7 yards had us dialed in at 7, but not practiced at what sight picture we needed at different distances, and 2) trying to use more time than just what was required to get the sight picture, in an attempt to "be careful," hurt not helped our accuracy. Also, once reaching 20-25, exact POI from the sights became very critical, and for example my Warren sights hit differently than my HD sights. I have used Warren and HD sights, and consider them interchangeable, but for this level of precision at distance, it wasn't so. More and more, the answer seems to be having a few of the same model pistol, in our case the 17, identical in every regard.

After many years of shooting, this is the same conclusion I have come to...

What brand magwell is on your glock Doc? It seems like a really perfect size... Not obnoxiously large, but still a big help.

Glock 17 shooting WWB. Installed Ameriglo Defoors and Crimson Traces a few days ago, first time trying them today. Shot a few rounds to check POI (low, but not unusably so) and then did the drill. Used a VG2 under a t-shirt, no times, just used a par timer. Started at 10 yards and pulled one shot at 16 yards.
