During a search for something else I thought I ran across someone other than Robinson Arms making a Stoner 63-like upper for standard AR lowers. Of course that wasn't what I was researching at the time and now that I'm curious about it I can't find anything.
Did I hallucinate it?

Not sure but, if you weren't in incognito mode, try to remember roughly what time of day you saw it and check your browser history.

You aren’t misremembering the ar180 upper that brownells is making are you?

That’s the problem, I didn’t follow the link when I saw it and so far I haven’t seen it again using the same search terms.

No, but that’s a player if/when I get a few more things sorted out rifle-wise.

Are you talking about a belt fed upper?
There was a Stoner 63ish belt fed upper for AR’s called the Shrike - in short they were very problematic and best avoided.

Did they ever get them running right at the fightlite MCR?

I don’t have a transferable M16 lower so I lost internet a long time ago.

Nope, not a Shrike or MCR. Whatever I saw said reproduction Stoner 63 but at this point it's entirely possible I dreamed the whole thing.

Hmmm, weird. It said it cannot be used on a transferable M16 unless a C2 manufacturer, but semi-auto is okay.

Yeah, I’m curious as to their reasoning on that because...

The ATF has classified the BRP upper as a title I firearm. So their reasoning is that if a non-C2 takes the BRP upper and makes it full-auto (even by using a transferable M16), then they've created a post-86 machine gun. In comparison, the Fightlite MCR/Shrike is not classified as a firearm, so anyone can attach it to a transferable M16 and it's no different legally than attaching any other upper.
I believe the reason why the ATF classified the BRP upper as a title I firearm is because the BRP's recoil system is part of the upper, and the lower is just a glorified trigger pack. The MCR/Shrike uses the regular receiver extension and buffer just like any other normal upper.

Interesting. I can think of a couple of other conversions that seem to meet that criteria.

Is it possible that you saw Robinson Arms announcement that they are re-introducing their Stoner 63 clone? (Because it will be different this time.)
That's a complete rifle, and not an upper, but it was announced early last year they were making another go at it.
