Ghost bullet loading.

Thought this was interesting.

It looks like he removes the magazine and removes the chambered round slowly.
But there is another “ghost round” in the gun that fires when he fumbles the trigger.

All poor gun handling aside, people were wondering where the extra round came from.

So I did some noodling with snap caps.

So it’s possible for a loose round in the grip to feed in when unchambering.

The thought was a dirty magazine or a sticky follower could allow a round to fall out of the top when tilting down.

Not that anyone here wouldn’t, but there’s a reason to visually or tactically check the chamber.

1) Mag out;
2) Slide locked to rear - making no effort to catch/retain chambered round;
3) Look into chamber;
4) Look down mag well;
5) Slide forward, de-cock if equipped;
6) Holster;
or
7) Muzzle in safe direction - dryfire/hammer down and holster.

Despite what the cool kids think and do, it's an administrative process, not a timed event.

There’s a balance. People can take it to the extreme either way, IMHO.

If I’m going to do something, I want to know WHY I’m doing it.

It would not have occurred to me that with mag out and a round ejected that another round could load into the chamber.

More knowledge is never a bad thing.

Holy fuckin' weird shit! Anything can happen.

Just reinforces how very important your safety TTPs are.

Me, to unload a pistol (for storage or maintenance), it's drop mag, eject chambered round (by retracting AND locking slide back), ease slide forward, then retract slide AGAIN to check chamber, then pull trigger in safe direction.

I tend to, without even thinking, do that last check (hell, sometimes I even do it twice) with the gun oriented up and down....so gravity would be on my side.

ETA: the other moron there was the gun counter employer, who should have been keeping an eye on things, and as soon as that idiot pulled his own gun out said STOP. We do NOT do any of that at this counter.
