This appears to be really nice at a really nice price point. I look forward to reading reviews in the future.

Thank you.

It does the job if you require a carry method of this nature. It follows the KISS principal; we have had a lot of people report that they have been doing this over the years with the regular Specialist and we decided to make a dedicated belt to achieve this. No contraptions, belly bands, corsets, or the like, a simple solution that is easy to put on, take off, uses one's standard carry gear, can be used in gym clothes/sweatpants, or as a traditional carry belt.

Mine arrived yesterday and I've been wearing it around the house today. So far I really like it - no longer have to weigh down the work from home sweatpants with a pocket gun.

Although the Specialist Covert was not necessarily designed to be used with gym attire or sweats we have had a lot of end user reports of the Covert being used for carry in gym clothes, lounge type pants, and sweats to good effect.

Thanks again to everyone here who supports us and finds time to let us know how our gear is working for them.

I received my Specialist Covert earlier this week and have worn it with either a G26 or 43x under running shorts a few mornings at the gym and on several trail runs. I've used my Specialist, along with various web belts, before for the same purpose and the Covert is definitely an improvement.

I like the set up of minimalist belt plus regular holster much more than the modified Smart Carry I have and the sticky material is really nice for helping to keep undershirts in place.

My wife has been doing this concept for awhile using a Graith belt and a Tenicor Velo over yoga pants but under a top. Works well can't even see it.

Ah, so this is a similar concept to the silicone leg gripper stuff in bike shorts then? Neat!

We had a surprising amount of end user reports of a Specialist being used in just this manner so we decided to make a dedicated version with specialized features.

I can't speak to the shorts but the Specialist Covert features grip zones on the interior and the exterior to keep everything in place.

Seems like it's at least conceptually similar. About the last 1.5 or so inches of the leg sections of several of the pairs of bike shorts I own have little strips of silicone attached to the inside of the fabric. This gives some grip against the leg, preventing the shorts from riding up.

I've really been digging the Covert belt. It is more stable than I expected due to the grippy material. I can do an entire dry fire session without the holster riding up, which was something I was concerned with not having any "downward" retention of the belt/holster. It also carries bigger guns well. While I originally purchased it primarily for carrying an LCR in gym shorts, it works really well with a G19. Not having to purchase new holster bodies is also a huge plus compared to something like the Phlster Enigma.

Thanks for the reminder joshs

I just placed an order. I spend way too much time in sweats and gym shorts not to add this to the arsenal.

The more I use the Covert the more I like it. I wore it underneath my work clothes a few days this week with just a little bit of med gear to see if this will be a viable option over an ankle kit. I forgot it was even there until I bumped into something directly with the TQ pouch I was using and remembered I had it on.

I like being able to just clip a CP and Sabre Red Spray on the belt and pull the top of my running shorts over them when I'm not carrying a gun for whatever reason. Being able to then just add the gun when applicable, without a special shell as Josh mentioned, is really useful for me as my day might go from 3 am at the gym then 12hrs running around at work to a long trail run with random people. And it works really well as a normal belt that doesn't attract attention if needed.

I've used my PF Specialist and Patagonia/MK/Arc'teryx/etc web belts for the same purpose in the past, but the Covert addresses all the limitations those belts had when used this way.

I've used an early generation Mastermind belt, (a thin coyote colored, milspec unreinforced nylon version that Mack made available shortly after arriving here), for the same purpose and it works, but since it has no "grip", it can be moved around or rotated under gym type attire too easily.

And, like you and Josh, I prefer minimalism and simplicity. I prefer a simple and direct solution to a "problem"...and as good as the PHLster solution may be for some, I am not the target audience for such (less simple) solutions.

We have a lot of users reporting that they are using their Covert in PT gear with double stack guns, reloads, our TQ carriers and even fixed blades which is beyond what we expected would be carried on the Covert when using it with gym attire but it seems to work.

Any experiences using the Specialist Covert with an OWB holster? Thanks

It can be used as a normal belt run through the belt loops but we have never had anyone want to carry OWB with it. I suppose it could work occasionally depending on the type of gun you are carrying but it is certainly not designed for that method of carry.

Mack
05-24-2021, 02:49 PM
As a general note we have been getting a lot of end user feedback about the Covert and it is being used more than we expected in PT gear, sweats, flannel pants, and other garments without belt loops.

We are happy that people are using the Covert to supplement their carry needs. Although initially designed to be used for PC work and 100% discreet tuckable carry primarily for our professional customers the simplicity of the design seems to be resonating well with those that are looking for a carry method that works with gym clothes and other hard to carry in clothing options. The big plus at least to us is that it works well, couldn't be much simpler or minimal, does not require any set up and can be used with the carry gear you already have.

Thanks again for everyone's support and feedback.

As others have mentioned the DCC are great; any low pro mounting option will work well and keep the bulk down, if you do not want a clip and like the extra security of the PTD a well made solid loop or fixed loops would also be a good option if you don't mind the extra bit of effort.

Yep. It's a daily carry since it arrived for my 642...which goes everywhere within walking distance. My other Mastermind belts get the nod when it's time to go elsewhere.

Took it out for a run today; this is the least a pistol has moved during a run that I can remember. I thought the IWB holster pushing the rubber of the belt away might compromise things and allow the pistol (and holster) to move, but was very pleasantly surprised. I've tried several carry methods so far for running and while most have been good, this finally hit the "just use this solution and forgo all others".

Thanks again to everyone for taking the time to share their experiences with the Covert.

When using the belt with a tucked in shirt it is not any different to draw from than a tuckable holster. The belt also kind of works as a shirt stay so your undershirt will likely stay put better than with a tuckable holster.

Got the multi-use pouch today from Mastermind to use with my Covert. A good way to carry credentials, (or other essentials), when wearing the Covert with lightweight training attire...which was as I had hoped when I placed the order.

Credential case sticks out about a half inch or so out of the top and is held quite securely in the elasticized pouch. No way it's going anywhere.

The pouch can also be carried in a pocket when too lazy to affix it to the belt. It rounds the hard corners of the credential case making it less obvious, and less uncomfortable in gym shorts pockets.

The low pro mag pouch and pillows will get tested when I don some actual adult clothing again...sometime in the near but nebulous future. I have little doubt that they will serve well. The G26 +2 mag fits the mag pouch splendidly...as will the G19 15 rounder.
