Week 34: Twenty Hits (3x5)
results may be posted until 11:59pm EDT on Monday 9-July-2012.

Range: 7 yards
Target: 3x5 card
Start position: concealed
Rounds fired: varies

Draw and fire two rounds to the 3x5. Record your time and the number of hits you got. Repeat until you've hit the target a total of twenty times, recording the time for each run. Keep running the drill (two shots at a time) until you've scored twenty total hits. This may take as few as ten runs or it could require many, many more depending on your accuracy.

The total time of all the runs you needed to get twenty hits is your score. If you do it in ten tries, your score is your time for those ten. If you need twenty tries to get the hits, your score is the time for all twenty. Your time gets added whether you got 2, 1, or 0 hits for a particular try.

Please report the following when responding to this thread:

Start position (concealed, retention holster, open/range holster, ready position)
Number of tries it took to get a total of 20 hits
Total combined time

G19 in a Shaggy under an untucked button-down dress shirt.
12 tries total
31.35s total

ETA: I have to admit gaming this in a small way. On my 12th try I only needed one hit, so I deliberately pushed my speed. I got the one hit I needed, and saved a tenth or two from the time I'd have needed to guarantee two hits. Rubbin's racin'...

At the time this was my first range session since AFHS two weeks ago. Shooting max speed cold did not work so well. But at least the bleeding had stopped and the blisters had healed.

Les Baer in a Brommeland IWB / Strong side closed front shirt.

11 Tries / 28.44

Strong side draw from a closed shirt is much more tricky.

Start position: Hands hanging down, G34 concealed in a Keeper under a closed front shirt.
Tries: 12
Total time: 23.52

I shot it this first time in a futile attempt to hit with every shot.

Here’s the raw data:

1.26, .62 = 1.88
1.37, .65 = 2.02
1.41, .61 = 2.02
1.36, .62 = 1.98
1.34, .67 = 2.01
1.22, .67 = 1.89
1.40, .66 = 2.06
1.24, .65 = 1.89
1.30, .55 = 1.85
1.40, .65 = 2.05
1.36, .52 = 1.88
1.33, .66 = 1.99

Here’s the video. A little boring, but I was filming anyway:

Gear: Walther PPQ 9mm, Comp-Tac MTAC @ 3:30, untucked polo, and jeans
Start position: concealed, hands at sides
Number of tries: 11
Total combined time: 39.78

First live fire in over two months and first time out with the PPQ. I had to REALLY slow down to get hits. First shot was consistently over two seconds and the splits were all close to one second. No fault of the gun. Just the rusty nut behind the trigger.
