Are the 870 DM mag fed shotguns good to go?

For what? Self defense?
Not really.

Heavy and unwieldy vs a tube mag
You can't top it off as you go
Difficult to slug select
Storing loaded mags can cause the shells to deform over time causing feed issues
Rimmed cartridges usually suck in mags

If it works, and if you don't have a shotgun and want one, it's pandemic panic, it might be the best option you get.

I have an 870 already.

If you aren't desperate, I'd skip it.

I don't see the magazines being reliable in the long term. And just searching right now I can only find one place that has the 3 round magazines in stock. And they're 30 bucks a pop. That's most of the way towards a good +2 tube magazine extension.

From a functionality standpoint they're not terribly useful on a shotgun for a myriad of reasons.

I really wanted one after watching the Remington promo video, they guy doing the demo was pretty dialed in.

And carrying those magazines would be a PITA. Do you happen to know how hard it would be to covert one to tube feed?

I've not broken one down, but I suspect that important bits like shell stops are missing, the bolt is different, and I'm not sure that you can replace the trigger group with a standard trigger group that has a lifter.
