I’ve never owned a 92. It was the first gun I ever shot as a kid but anyway. Dealer has a new Italian one that I want to get but when I was holding it just dry firing it with a normal high thumbs grip it seems like the decocker lever would destroy my strong hand thumb. What am I missing? Do you just have to make sure you keep your thumb away from the slide? Keep a lower grip? My thumb seemed to sit right on the decocker so help me out.

It won't be an issue. I've seen thumbs forward and up used by different folks. When the slide is headed back your thumbs aren't right behind it right? When it's coming back forward it's not going to beat you up.

Of course, the easy solution is to try one out and go from there.

It's possible if you are used to having your thumbs up pretty high. I think this is something you'd adjust to pretty easily though and find a good grip. Even on the rare occasion I've hit my thumb with the decocker during cycling it wasn't a big deal.
