I highly recommend this pistol to anyone looking for a super high end CZ clone. They shoot incredibly well and are definitely in the mix for one of the finest pistols built today. The all steel model pictured below weighs just under 50oz empty and accuracy is amazing. You can get them all steel or a couple different combinations of steel and aluminum. Mine is DA/SA, but they are available SAO as well. The other options are all black, all silver, or two tone like mine.

They are owned by the former owner of Sphinx and built in Switzerland. They are imported to the US by The Attic in Minot, ND. I've got a lot of high end pistols and I'm especially impressed with the Redback.

Anybody here have one?

I was looking at The Attic’s website, and I saw these. I thought they looked Sphinx-ish. I guess that explains why it was the case.

Out of curiosity, do you do much business with the Attic? I am trying to get an MR-73, and they do layaway.

Before I bought one of these CZ clones, I would call and discuss with the importer just what their procedure is for processing warranty claims. The next question would address spare parts inventory. A third question would be will they sell parts to consumers. Often an importer is some guy in an office with two file cabinets. I have seen importers give elephant fuckings over and over again. The 2nd prize goes to EAA where both people in the organization each wear a strap. 1st prize goes to all former importers who closed down and left folks holding the bag.

They need USPSA approval to have a chance but, then again, at 3600 bucks against 1200 for Shadow 2 I don't thin they have much chance on wide market adoption. Likely to be a niche aficionado gun.

I don’t think they care about wide market adoption. That’s not their game. Production is very limited to begin with. It’s an updated version of the old Sphinx 3000.

I have a Shadow 2 Orange and the Phoenix is a much nicer pistol, let alone comparing it to the mass produced standard Shadow 2. You’re talking or of the finest pistols built today vs a mass produced pistol. It’s two different markets.

The Attic is good to deal with. Yes, the Redback is an update of the old Sphinx 3000.

The MR73 is outstanding. I have a couple of those also.

Thank goodness they put a rail on it, that could have gotten expensive.

Purely a matter of taste, but if I was trying to sell a retro piece, I’d keep it retro; and if I was trying to sell an advanced piece, I’d expect less price tolerance than from the retro market.

Not quite sure what you’re getting at, but it’s not a “retro” anything. It’s an updated Sphinx 3000, which wasn’t retro itself. The 3000 had a rail too.

They are extremely well made CZ clones. Not too different from the extremely well made 1911 clones from Wilson and the like. Same idea.

CZ is to Colt what Phoenix is too Wilson, so to speak.

It shows how the gun was updated. Kind of the 2nd generation of the Sphinx 3000...

Very cool.

I'm not in the target market for one, but that is a very handsome gun, and looks very well made indeed.

I’m familiar with all the parties. I missed the boat on AT84/88/2000s, and am still mad about it. I think rails are ugly, and both superfluous and obstructive to concealed carry, which is what I usually do with guns.

So, I am mad that they decided to bring back the improved-improved model, rather than the original.

No I get it. I'm not a rail guy either. Unfortunately so many pistols today include them.

If it matters, I'm a huge fan of the old Sphinx 2000 and own a few. However, the owner who designed the 3000 and the Redback is not the same as the Sphinx ownership from back in the day. As for the AT models before Sphinx got control of it, they were very average from a quality standpoint. I had one and sold it.

Here's some Sphinx 2000 goodness for you...they pretty much all had stainless frames and carbon steel slides.

Came across this new Phoenix gun and want it irrationally. I could start shooting Limited if I had one. I have one round of .40 somewhere. They already sell in Canada, hopefully they will make their way here.

Yes that’s the Phoenix Drake Limited Major gun. I don’t care much for 40S&W, but I already have one of these reserved.

I’m hearing from the importer that they will be here by May or June. Probably about $5000.

This would be in line with top 2011 price-wise. Certainly an easier path into the US competition than the Redback. We'll see how ammo situation develops and how my single stack experiment goes. I could consider the Limited division under some circumstances, this might be a worthy option assuming adequate support. Limited guns are all about mags working, or not; hopefully, oem mags and Swiss engineering will make that a nonissue.

Read some reports on Enos from German Redback competitive shooters that they change OEM springs to CZ to improve trigger pull. Found that interesting.
