The (off)color commentary from the shooter that had his Saiga turn into a straight-pull gun got a chuckle out of me, for whatever reason.

The freakin' Ironman... Seriously, if you want to give your gear a good shake-out, take it to the Ironman. I've shot the Ironman three times and have never had a malfunction-free match. It's incredible fun, though, and the amount of camaraderie is impressive. I still keep up with friends who live on the other side of the country, where we only ever see each other at the Ironman. :D

One of the uncomfortable little truths that shooting three-gun brings out is how unreliable shotguns are. Saigas are just horrible, but even Benellis and FNs choke regularly if they're not kept clean and fed quality ammo. Slide-action guns are not immune either - I frequently see malfunctions in Remington 870Ps and Mossberg pump guns.

Unpossible! Everyone knows that pump guns, like revolvers, are immune to physics and therefore never malfunction in any way. I know it's true, I read it on the internet.

That's OK, you still have the sound of the slide racking. In fact, I'm surprised someone hasn't made that sound into a download for non-gun owners. :D

Todd and I watched Rob Haught short stroke a Remington 870 once. We didn't lose bowel control or anything.

...although strangely a sick raccoon showed up on the range and was shortly smeared all over the range. I can only assume that the raccoon heard the sound of the pump action and surrendered to his fate.
