Hauling ass on Safari on a Mac and an iPhone. FYI, including what operating system and browser you are using will make these reports very helpful.

So it’s not just me?

Yes, for the past few weeks, it’s taking 10-20 seconds, sometimes longer, to load when hitting “New Posts”.
On both a year-old iPad and an iPhone XR. Safari. With blazing fast WiFi connection, or cell data.

ETA: 25 sec delay followed by a 503 error has been common this morning.

Exactly this, plus firefox and chrome, on a COVID-upgrade ipad pro 12.9 from March.

It’s so slow this morning that it’s like being inside Joe Biden’s brain painted orange.

Had a 503 just a few seconds ago.

PF has been slow for about a week for me, both on Win10 / Chrome and Android 11 / Chrome. PF pages start to load, then a big 5-6 pause, then finishes. A couple of 503s a day as well. Elsewhere browsing speeds are normal for me.

Running the latest released build of Chrome (85.0.4183.121 (Official Build) (64-bit)) on a Windows 10 (version 2004) i7 laptop. Often see a message in the lower left corner of the browser saying, "Waiting for google.com" when loading P-F pages.

Just means that the hinge will completely open and convert the laptop to tablet mode. You can stand it up in tent mode for presentations. It’s quite thin and light as well.

It’s a Lenovo product that cost quite a bit less than the comparable Apple I was going to get.

To not thread drift too bad, yes it has been running slow for me both on my Pixel phone and my desktop with Chrome. Noticeably slower.

He graduated, and after forty something years I tracked him down and called him this past year. Turns out he became the warden of a prison facility in upstate NY near where he lived in the northern Adirondacks.

I loved Genny Cream Ale when I was in college. :) A few years back, watching History of Violence, there was a scene where the main character (played by Viggo what's-his-face) had to meet some mobsters in Philly. He was waiting for them, sitting in a booth in a bar with a can of that. It was a nice touch.

If you ever saw the Geneseo river, you would retroactively get hepatitis and tetanus. :o
Genny screamers!

They didn't have any trouble making green beer on St Paddy's Day... All the other days, making not-green beer was a problem.

In the 80s, I used to watch Days in the afternoons with my older sisters.

Took a long break from soaps, but when I started going out with my wife, she and her roommates and some of the girls from surrounding apartments would crowd into living rooms every afternoon to watch it. They would schedule classes around Days. I sat there, the lone guy in the room, and shocked them because I knew all of the characters and storylines they’d never heard of from ten years earlier. But the funniest thing for me was that it was like I never stopped watching: the same people were doing some of the same things for the same silly reasons.

Haven’t watched that show since that semester of college. But I bet it’s not very different.

In my experience the big (WAN) internet is one of the few things that dealt with the effects of COVID-19 without significant malfunction or degradation. This speaks well for the people and institutions operating it, and particularly for the people who designed it.

Of course it was designed to maintain data flow under nuclear attack, so COVID-19 be like ... meh.

Individual hosting providers are a different matter, as are all manner of attacks including DDOS on particular sites.

Reasonably good here (Toronto suburbs) today Friday 09, a few slow page loads and one 503. Other sites normal.

Just in case you haven’t seen it: in the bottom left hand corner of the screen there is a drop down where you can select a style; there is a second style named something like “default mobile style” that makes it better on an iPhone like form factor. It loses some of the navigation options but it is at least better than the desktop style.

Agreed on those points but the mobile interface for vBulletin sucks, and trying to use the desktop interface on my mobile isn't much better. I realize you don't get much in the way of revenue when I access the site via Tapatalk, which is part of the reason I'm a site supporter.

Can not agree more. I do all my forum reading on the phone via Tapatalk. I never sit down in front of a desktop for this, it’s in short breaks at work or while rocking children to sleep. I understand the issues with Tapatalk, especially financially, but that is part of the reason I’m a site supporter to help offset that.

The V bulletin mobile doesn’t give the option to pull up just new posts which again with limited time is the most efficient way to catch-up on the days posts.

There's still some weird stuff going on. Very hard to reproduce, and it's very random.

1. When I load the "New Posts" page, sometimes it comes up with the normal style/formatting. Sometimes it looks like old-time Usenet. I'll try to grab a screen cap next time. For a while it was only happening on my Android tablet, less often on my Android phone, but just now on my Win10 PC. All with FF browser.

Sometimes I can reload the page and it refreshes correctly. Usually I have to click through a few pages and "something happens" and the formatting returns to normal. I have no idea what happens to fix things.

2. Similar issue for the "Like" box. I think I posted upthread that sometimes I click "like" and the box goes away. Just disappears. I thought it might be a script blocker add-on so i disabled it. Still happens.

3. I still get pages that take >30 seconds to load.... No pattern to it. Just seems random. Haven't had any 404 or other server errors recently. Typically, pages load normally, but, sometimes not.

I'm happy to help troubleshoot if there's something helpful I can do... Will try to remember to grab screens.

My experience somewhat mirrors RoyGBiv's - it's generally MUCH better than it was a few weeks ago, but rarely I'll get the screwed up/no stylesheet pages still. It's maybe one time out of fifty or one hundred page loads, so it's no big deal, but it's not completely back to normal.

Sometimes it looks like old-time Usenet. I'll try to grab a screen cap next time....

Not sure exactly what that means, but when I follow a link to a post from the notification email, it looks like antique internet, maybe early 90s style. I dont know how to do a screen grab, the internal links dont function, in other words if I click the main page button or whatever, it doesnt work. If I click the main forum on bookmarks, its fine, then I go find the linked page I was looking for. Chrome, windows 7

Edit: And since I posted that it seems to be working normally.

RoyGBiv

After nearly 2 days without any issues at all, the "Likes" problem started again just now. (~7:35 AM CDT)

In the hopes of troubleshooting / diagnosing, I ran CCleaner, cleared my cache, etc. When I re-loaded PF (my bookmark is directly to the "New Posts" search), I got the style sheet problem again on top of the "likes" problem (images below). I was not having this problem before I got the "Likes" problem.

So.... I clicked through a few posts hoping the problems would clear.... No luck. Then I clicked the "Settings" link and the style sheet problem was resolved. Clicking "New Posts" again brought up a correctly formatted page. Likes are working again as well.

I went back and ran CCleaner again and the pages & likes are still formatting / working correctly.

So.... Is there maybe something about clicking "settings" that loads some browser setting that affects how the site is formatted in a browser?
Or, was it just a timing thing... that while I was trying to chase down some clues, whatever the problem was corrected itself and had nothing to do with clicking on settings?

That's all I can think of at the moment.

More FWIW....
This morning I hit the New Posts search page from 2 devices. Android tablet and android phone, both running current versions of FF browser.

When the search results loaded, page formatting was per my post above. When I selected the notification link the formatting returned to normal and, so far, has remained normal. Same thing on both devices.

I get similar on chromebook with latest updates.

When I first visit in the morning and click on my saved "new posts" bookmark, I get the skeletonized version of the page...but as soon as I click on my notifications, it reverts to normal and stays that way for the rest of the day...with few if any exceptions. Odd, but I can live with that peculiarity.

Last FWIW... Not meaning to poke the issue, just wanting to add some clues.

On my PC just now (Win10 w FF), the search results page rendered correctly. Went into a thread and clicked the like button on a post. Had the same failure as post above (but with correct page formatting). Clicked on the Notifications / Inbox link. Went back to the page where the like failed, and clicked the like button successfully.

So... A workaround seems to be to click "Settings" or "Notifications" and something in those header routines (possibly others as well, have not tried) seem to be fixing the random formatting/likes issues for me.

Thanks!

Back to normal now...

I have to admit to a twisted smile before clicking the "Settings" link next to "Welcome Zincwarrior"... :o

Was contemplating what new profile picture he might appreciate.

I wish I was there to see the look on his face when he finds out he cant become a supporting member. Maybe he’ll just leave at that point. He oughta store his pistol if he has one next to his testicles his wife keeps in the Jar on the mantle.

C'mon now. ZW has helped us all get through Covid by taking our minds off it and giving us something to argue about 24 hours a day. ;)

Are we going to become like those whose policies and actions we abhor?

Easy enough to just block or ignore the guy...imho.

Besides, every now and again he posts something I actually agree with, but don't ask me to produce evidence. ;)

🙄 Sorry Blues one of the rare times I disagree with you. The juice is just not worth the squeeze. Doesnt matter really because I blocked him. I always thought that was an inmature thing to do but I just couldn’t take it anymore.

We're friends, B, so we get to disagree without acrimony or losing sleep over it. And besides, I get what you're saying.

There have been a few here that have gotten under my skin in an irksome way.

No 503s, but noticeably long load times last night and today. Different computers, different networks, including from a network I only use once a month or so (friend's wifi).

Several minutes of 502 securi firewall errors just now.

Could you screenshot and post the next one you get?

I submitted a trouble ticket earlier this afternoon and I think they just took action on my complaint as it’s noticeably faster now.

I too got the 502 errors earlier today for about 5-10 minutes. Apologies, no screenshots, I was supposed to be working...

In the last few minutes I'm getting weird shit with the likes pull down:

And, sporadically (as in, now I am trying to screencap it, it doesn't do it) after clicking to like a post the thumbs up image, like this post and count disappear leaving just the bookmark and report post images.

ETA: Dunno if this matters but, Firefox 84.0.2 (64-bit) on macOS Catalina 10.15.7

Things seem to be running better now, it's unfortunate that I had to send a fairly nasty message about the state of affairs and customer service to my hosting provider to get things back to acceptable.

Having intermittent issues with the server not responding and timing out or the firewall blocking my IP address. This is with multiple laptops and both Chrome/Windows 10 and Safari on multiple Wi-Fi networks, including my home and corporate networks.

I got this several times this morning.

In addition, for the past week or so, I often can't reach pages. I will try to go to past, but nothing will happen, until eventually it says Safari can't find the page I'm trying to reach. I'll try this on several posts, but when I start having this problem, I know the best thing to do is to just wait. If I try again in maybe 15 minutes or so, it will work fine (usually, but not always). I'd say it's happening about 25 percent of the time. This has happened occasionally in the past, but has gotten worse recently.

Mac OS 11.2, Safari 14.0.3.

I never have issues accessing on my phone but it seems more often than not when I access on my Mac it won't let me. Usually it just acts like it's trying to load but occasionally the firewall thing pops up. I know you guys are working to resolve it but if you still need people to screenshot issues let me know.

This also happened to me this morning on one thread. When I went back to the thread a few minutes later it behaved normally.

Yesterday I could not get in to the site for most of the day. Pages would not load. I finally got in in the evening. Same thing is happening this morning about 50 percent of the time.

If I try to use quotes or mentions, the firewall rejects the post and says that my IP is temporarily banned. That cannot be the case as I can use another tab in the same browser (Safari on Big Sur or Chrome on W10) and post. I also get several "time outs" throughout the day, regardless of browser or network (home WiFi, work hard-wired, or AT&T LTE).

I'm getting this error on the majority of my page loads. If I reload the page enough times, then it succeeds. I'm using Firefox 85.

https://i.imgur.com/oVz3F7a.jpg

Also I had to host the image externally because if I try to host it on PF, the image uploader box never appears and everything just hangs.

I'm getting that one regularly now or site won't load, just hangs like I have slow internet speed, which I don't..

Just a heads up, seeing a database error trying to open the Spyderco thread:

Doesn't seem to happen on other threads I've opened so far.

May have fixed it :-) pages 35 and earlier were fine so did a thread reply on page 35 and now have the top post on page 36 that was generating the database error. Thinking a nuked or corrupted post may have thrown the numbering off in the dB.
