View Full Version : What are the current thoughts on Tango Down Vickers Glock accessories?

I generally stick with Glock OEM parts with a few exceptions - sights, SCDs, and Geeplates on subcompacts. With my 43 and 48 I tried two more - Tango Down Vickers magazine releases since I don’t care for the sharp front edge on the stock design, and Double Diamond extended slide stops to increase thumb leverage to compensate for an old hand injury. (I use OEM extended slide stops on my double stack Glocks for the same reason; I usually slingshot but want the ability to thumb the release without difficulty.) These two parts have proven to be trouble-free on both my 43 and 48.
One thing I always do is swap out grooved triggers for smooth. In the case of the slimlines I replace the grooved shoe with a smooth one scavenged from another OEM trigger bar.
I have a new 43X MOS coming, and I’m tempted to try a few Vickers parts. I found I had one of his slide stops for a 43 lying around, and was a little surprised that I was able to manipulate it on my 43 as well as I could the Double Diamond. Also, his replacement flat faced trigger is intriguing me - I always end up recontouring and smoothing the stock safety blade for comfort.
What are the current thoughts on Vickers Glock parts - good or bad? I’ve seen posts both pro and con in the archives, especially for the slide stops - but the problems were with the older style, not the coil spring models used on the 43, 43X, 48 and Gen5s.

I’ve been putting the flat faced triggers on my Glocks. Fit and function is good. I like that I can just replace the shoe and everything else is still stock.

I like the TD/Vickers parts, and have both the slide stops and mag releases on my personal 19s. It's a Glock, so it's easy enough to try and swap out and see what you think.

I’m more thinking about saving money if certain parts are known to be a problem. My motto is “only make new mistakes.”

There have been some TD parts used on GLOCK pistols, and I have used mag base plates (chipped one or two-immediately replaced by TD), a mag catch on a GEN5 26 with no issues over two years and their extended slide cover plates with red dot pistols-no problems.
Tango Down lists a separate slide stop for the 43X/48, and it’s a different part from GLOCK, so I would not use the 43 slide stop lever.
We’ve had one instructor run a trigger for awhile with no reported problems.
It seems TD is a good company and gets stuff right...

Thanks - I put the 43 slide stop I found into my 43 and like it subject to shooting tests. I’m thinking it would be worth trying the 43x/48 version for the new 43x.
I’m hoping more people who use the flat trigger chime in, Whirlwind06’s and your instructor’s experience is heartening. I suppose there’s only a small financial risk to try one since I will be removing the grooved shoe from the factory trigger bar anyways.

TD stuff is GTG based on my use on G17/19/21/34/35 pistols. I have extensive direct/vicarious experience with the slide stops and base plates.
OP says "...since I don’t care for the sharp front edge on the stock design."
Given the price difference between the TD unit at 15-20 and the OEM at 4-7, I might be tempted to simply emory board/sandpaper down an OEM one until it was less sharp to my liking.
You would save the money and gain the experience on stripping down the pistol. I have done this one all of my Gen1-3 guns using the OEM Extended Unit as my starting point.
FWIW.

Ken - You may know this but: I was overdosing on Glock 48 videos recently and one caught my eye - the gentleman had installed a G43 slide stop in his G48 and experienced significant issues. He had posted a video after he put the OEM part back, basically apologizing for stirring up a ruckus about his "issues" with the G48. I'll see if I can find it again.
EDIT: Here it is:

As to the thread, I don't have any experience with TD parts. I did like the Overwatch flat trigger I put in my G19 and G43X, but in the end on both guns I reverted back to OEM on both (smooth on the G19, serrated on the G43X before I sold it.) With that experience, I feel that the smaller dingus that Overwatch uses would be less preferable to the larger one that Apex puts in their triggers (again, maybe you have experience with both these flat triggers.) Hope that helps somewhat.
PS I did file a teeny bit off the trigger safety on my new G48 ever so slightly, as per what vcdgrips said, just to take the sharp edge off. It helped a lot.
I usually like the Tango Down/Vickers parts, but the trigger for the Gen 5 made my 34 worse.

I run TD/Vickers magazine releases on all my Glocks - best money I've ever spent on a Glock, IMHO. I'm one of those folks who have no problems operating the factory slide releases, so no experience there. I haven't used TD flat faced triggers yet, but I have FF triggers on several Glocks and find them to be generally an all-around improvement.

What happened? It shouldn’t have changed the pull or break.

This is me. Mag Releases are good to go for me. I bought a G43 mag extension, but shortly after I got it installed, I moved and now it's buried in a box somewhere so I've never vetted it.

The quality of TangoDown / Vickers components are good, so I wouldn't worry about that. I see this as more of a question of individual aesthetics and ergonomics. In my case, I like the Vickers mag release just fine, though I'm also happy with a stock length OEM one and filing the sharp edges off. I have a fairly aggressive thumbs forward grip, and as such, the Vickers slide release lever doesn't work for me and leads to premature lockbacks. For plenty of others, it's a performance improvement. YMMV.
There's a few Vickers parts I'm not too thrilled about. There's the slide racker backplate for the G42, which I consider kind of counter-productive due to holster fitment and a slight decrease in concealability. Also, I'm not a big fan of any of their base plates or mag extensions, but mainly for personal ergonomic reasons. I've just never had an issue with removing Glock mags, so I don't see the need of it for me. The mag extensions I'm not too fond of as they seem to flex and slide back and forth a bit too much for my comfort.

I’ve used TD mag releases and slide stops for years. All of my Glocks have them, both Gens 4 and 5.

I decided to take a chance on the flat trigger and ordered two - one for a slimline, and one for a Gen5. The slimline one showed up yesterday, and installing it on a spare trigger bar I had was quick work. I popped it into my 48 to be a test mule.
Initial impressions are very good. I had a modified trigger bar in the 48 since new (an OEM smooth shoe replacing the grooved) and the ergonomics of the flat trigger are slightly improved over that. I need to do live fire to be sure, but I think this may be a winner for me. I’m not finding finger placement to be critical at all, that was a concern with some of what I read (on M4C, maybe?)
The Gen5 version will go into my 19.5 MOS. The slimline one may get reproduced in the new 43x MOS when it gets here, and maybe even my 43.
I also ordered a 43x/48 slide stop, I’ll probably put that in the 48 to try out. A new mag release for the 43x is on the way, too - I already know I like those from my 48 experience.

The Gen5 trigger showed up today and dropped right in, it’s insensitive to finger placement for me. Curious to see how it works on the range.

I’ve used TangoDown parts on my Glocks for many years; several wear the extended mag release, a couple have extended slide stops, and there’s a bunch of magazines floating around with FDE and black base plates. When I got my 43x the first 2 things I changed out were the sights and slide stop; went with Ameriglo and a TangoDown Vickers extended slide stop. The OEM slide stop was terrible on my 43x. Happy with all my TD/Vickers stuff.
What happened? It shouldn’t have changed the pull or break.
Sorry, been away for a bit.
It was a long time ago, but I recall it feeling like a stiffer pull. It shouldn't have, but I remember being immediately disappointed and ordered an Overwatch trigger on the spot.

Oddly enough I'm a little disappointed by my latest slide stops. My 19.4 has more rounds through it than any other gun I own and its had the Vickers slide stop the entire time and I've always been pleased with it. I've had one in my G45 for over a year now but that gun doesn't have an optic so I've only shot 584 rounds through it in that time. In the past few weeks I got both a G44 and 19.5 MOS and just got around to upgrading them with the Vickers parts. After doing so, I noticed that all three of my Gen 5 slide stops are lacking the aggressive angle on my Gen 4, which is what really makes it great. They're improved over stock, but just barely. I haven't noticed problem with my G45 but again, I've barely shot it so I'll be sending an email to TD. Luckily they're not much money, but I just feel like my Gen 4 version is a bit better.

I agree. I installed them on all my Gen 5 guns because they are a slight upgrade over stock, but the Gen 3/4 variants were significantly better overall.

Only experience with them is 3 of their +2 extensions on G43 mags.
We love 'em. Good quality, come with their own spring, perfect extension of the grip, totally reliable.

The only Vickers gear I've used are an extended mag release on a Gen 3 Glock 27, and the mag base plates.

I still use the base plates. I like them for double feed clearance, as they give a nice surface to get a grip, without adding a lot of bulk. Also, I like the marking dimples on the textured plastic. I use a gold sharpie in the dimples and it does not come off like it will on smooth plastic surfaces.

I am sufficiently impressed with the trigger on my 48 that I decided to order them for my other slimlines. The ergonomic differences are less prominent on the 19.5, but I still like it enough that I might put one in another.

I use the extended mag release on my three Glocks and find it to be a significant improvement. Haven't tried any other extended releases to compare it to, and since it works perfectly for me I doubt I ever will.
I also use the base plates on all my OEM training mags. Orange on the 15 round mags, blue on the 17. Just makes them easy to identify in the range bag and to count up at the end of the trip to make sure I didn't leave any out on the range. I like them better than the factory base plates, but I haven't bothered to install them on any of my carry mags.

Change of plans - I’m trying one in my carry 43 since I already have an OEM smooth trigger in it so it’s easy to push the pin out without damage in case I want to go back, but I put the other two in my bigger pistols - the 34.4 and 41. I’m seeing an immediate ergonomic improvement in the 41, less so in the 34 but it’s still there. I need to analyze why it feels different, whether it’s LOP or finger positioning.
Part of me wants to put one in my late wife’s 21.2, but I think I want to leave that one alone.
