KSTG (http://pistol-forum.com/kstg) match
Tuesday 3-July-2012
$25
Estimated Round Count: 50-60
Squads begin at 6pm, 7pm, 8pm, 9pm, and 10pm. Six people maximum per squad.

Signups begin on Monday 18-June at 9am. You can call the NRA Range @ 703-267-1402 to reserve a slot at that time. Calling before Monday 18-June will not get you a slot and will likely just annoy the folks who let us run our matches.

All,

I won't be able to make the match and, subsequently, my 2000 slot is available.

Thanks for a good match all. As always, well worth the time and the learning opportunity, especially to test different gear and oneself under scenario conditions. There are always the things you kick yourself for, but this is how we learn.

Good times had by all. Thanks to Todd et al for organizing, Vinh for handicapping himself with a 1911, and that ragtag bunch of patriots for whooping some Redcoat ass a couple hundred years ago.

Oh procedurals! Gotta not do those again. If I hadn't penetrated cover for two shots, I'd be ten seconds faster.

Thanks for running the match, and for posting the results so early, though I think most of us could have waited until daybreak. :p

Tell me about it. About 30% of my time was procedurals.

Not for nothin' but one of the things I'm most proud about when it comes to KSTG is that the folks who come to the matches regularly have really started to understand the idea of not over-penetrating/crowding cover. In the coming months we're going to get less generous with how far people can lean out from over, as well.

Thanks to Todd and all the ROs and staff for another great match. I particularly liked the stage design with the final "super stage" that used the whole width of the range and the targetry from the previous stages.

That was an idea JV had a while back. It certainly made the match easier to set up and tear down while keeping the number of stages and the round count reasonable. I know I liked it.

We'd love to hear feedback on this issue from other folks who were there. Is that kind of "field course" something you'd like to see more of?

Yes! That was a lot of fun. It also opens up a lot of opportunities for stage planning and risk assessment.

First, thanks to the guys for setting up another fun match.

I enjoyed the 'superstage' finale. It opened up more opportunity for movement (and obviously a greater number of targets) than a standard stage. It also forced some decision making (e.g. do I engage these targets on the move or fire from the starting position?).

I also liked the 'don't shoot this color' stage - one of those 'engage brain then shoot' exercises. Reminded me of a stage at an IDPA match also at the NRA Range a few years ago which took place around a poker table. The suit of the card you drew determined the 'no-shoot' targets.

First, no G34s. Now, all this tactical stuff. I thought this was supposed to be a game? Why don't we just call it Kan't Satisfy Todd Green? ;)

Genius. It's obvious you guys put a lot of thought (and maybe even have some fun) in designing the stages. I loved the field course and would love to see more of that!

I also really liked the last stage, as well as the card draw stage that made you engage the brain a bit first. I saw a drill in a recent SWAT magazine article that involves the shooter reading aloud until the buzzer goes, then looking up and engaging. There's more to the drill, and it would have to be adapted, but might be something interesting to do.

I certainly had fun with the stages; all but the first had some really interesting elements in them (gotta work on my swordsmanship, and during the 'card' stage I had to check the card again to see which color NOT to shoot).

I can say that having 20% more gun, as well as having a gun that reloads better from a speedloader certainly helped a LOT. Also, it was nice to have someone to compete against in my division, for once =)

Thanks to the crew; see y'all next time!

Todd, et all Range Officers and Timekeepers:

We REALLY appreciate the time and effort put into these games. Each time I come out, I've learned a bit more about what to carry and what not to. Let's just say that I'm starting with a J-Frame revolver as a "do not carry" as a main gun. At least not without some special training and finding out which speedloaders will actually work or not.

25-Sep is the next scheduled. We're trying to work with the NRA to get a date at the end of August as well.

I won't even be in town. It will be run by uspsa rules to the best of my knowledge. But they're not an official club.
