Hello all,

I'm a new member (this is my first post) who has been reading the forum for several months now. I migrated here from a couple of other forums. The quality of the posts and discussions here are first rate and I look forward to becoming part of this community and maybe posting from time to time.

I was hoping that someone on the forum could refer me to a well regarded trainer/coach in the Louisville, Kentucky area. I have been shooting handguns for a couple of years now and seem to be at a point where I have leveled out. I'm not getting any better or a whole lot worse. I have read enough posts on the forum to know that the first thing usually recommended for someone in my situation is a competent trainer. I don't need any convincing on that point. I just need to find one in the Louisville area.

I'm probably shooting 9 to 10 thousand rounds a year and am getting out to the range (indoor) about three weekends a month. I don't have trouble staying on a six inch Shoot 'n See out to about thirty feet. I can probably stay on target 60 to 70 percent of the time out to about forty feet and then start dropping off pretty rapidly. At seventy-five feet I may get three rounds out of ten on a ten or twelve inch target but will also have fliers all over the cardboard. I have been working lately on strong and weak handed shooting. Given the range rules where I shoot I am not really able to practice drawing and rapid fire. I am usually shooting a G19 but have been working a lot more lately with a S & W 686. I've also been doing more dryfiring in my basement

In terms of my goals, I would first like to become competent (I know that is a broad term and pretty subjective) relative to concealed carry and defensive use of handguns but am not looking for any Rambo-type training. Secondly, I have goten involved in a small, monthly league at my range and enjoy it a lot. I would like to get involved in competitive shooting like IDPA or something similar without being completely embarrassed. I'm fifty-four and probably got started in this a little late but there's no point in looking back.

I'd really appreciate being referred to a good trainer/coach in my area if anyone knows of anyone they could point me toward. Thank you very much.

One of our members had a similar question a while back. I'm trying to find that thread, no joy. :(

Did find this one though:

Check and see if Randy Cain (Cumberland Tactics) or Louis Awerbuck (Yavapai Firearms Academy) are coming to your area. You can google them and find their websites with their course schedules, course descriptions, etc.

Thanks for the input. I know there are some websites for guys in the local area and had seen them. I was hoping someone may have had personal contact with someone they found particularly good that they could recommend based on their experience. I'll check out Cain and Awerbuck. Thanks for the other suggestions. If anyone else knows of anyone I'd be happy to hear from them.
