So my leftedness seems to be giving me a little trouble operating my AR, especially for stoppages. I was looking at swapping the stock charging handle for a Badger or something similar. The prices seem to be all over the map for left / ambi charges. Anyone have any suggestions, experience or advice?

Thanks

Before you go too far down this path, note the location of your forward assist relative to the CH.

In spite of this, there are a bunch of companies about to drop ambi CHs. If you still want one, and can wait a bit, it might be worthwhile.

My problem lies in double feeds. I have to each over in a stance way. It seems that having a latch release on the right side would solve this. Are you saying that the ambi handles get in the way of the forward assist?

I'm saying that the forward assist gets in the way of the ambi latch. There is not enough to grab on to IMO and I'd rather rabbit-ear the CH.

If you are having trouble with double feeds, you might want to try a PMAG or different ammo.

I have used the above handle and it works pretty well.

Both double feeds I had were with PMAGs. Two different mags. I can try different ammo, however I would like to find a way to rectify stoppages easier if I can.

Thanks, Are the latches pretty stout? The ones I have seen here seem a bit flimsy.

I've been using that one for a while now, with good results. FWIW put it through a 2 day Magpul class without any issues.

I've got an AXTS ambi lower on order, but my lower keeps getting pushed back while they try to launch their ambi charging handle with Rainier Arms...

As a lefty I think I can say that from my experience a BCM charging handle Mod 4 and proper technique is all you need. YMMV.

Here is a 2008 SWAT article on the subject http://www.10-8consulting.com/article_page.php?articleID=19
