I just ordered a S&W 638 as I am retiring my previous BUG. I would like to know what load people like best as far as terminal performance goes. And also what pocket holster people have favorable reviews for.

I carry the 638 as a pocket medicine for social purposes on occasion. It is carried in a Desantis Nemesis pocket holster. On occasion it will be found in a Renegade, pull through ankle holster. I keep mine loaded with Winchester Personal Defense +P. It has been getting bumped a lot for the Detective Special with the same ammo. Both come out of my pockets better than the PM9.

I'm toting a 36 with the hammer spur ground off, S&W boot grips in a Blackhawk #4 pocket holster that I've renforced with cardboard to keep it's shape. I don't like the holster, and will likely make one later out of leather.
As for my carry load, I'm toting Speer Short Barrel 135grn +P.

I was carrying the Cor-Bon 110 grain .38 loads with the Barnes copper bullet.

Have switched to the Speer 135 grain "Short Barrel" .38s.

I have two 649s and an old M38 Bodyguard. The Speer load shoots well in all of them.

I like the J-Frame 638 and have owned a M-37 with the hammer spur ground off. Hornady has a pretty decent load out that is recommended by some folk's I know. I'm ok with it because it's not +P which I'm not going to use in an Airweight revolver, recommended or not. 38 Special 110 gr FTX® Critical Defense®

And yes, I am a wuss with +P 38/357 Ammo in a lightweight snub nose revolver...

Uncle Mike pocket hoster or DeSantis Nemesis for any of my Airweights. For ammo while I think any of the current designer rounds will work fine I'm used to the old 158 gr LSWC HP.
