KSTG (http://pistol-forum.com/kstg) match
Tuesday 29-May-2012
$25
Estimated Round Count: 50-60
Squads begin at 6pm, 7pm, 8pm, 9pm, and 10pm. Six people maximum per squad.

Signups begin on Monday 14-May. You can call the NRA Range @ 703-267-1402 to reserve a slot at that time. Calling before Monday 14-May will not get you a slot and will likely just annoy the folks who let us run our matches.

Please note: the time for the match has changed. We are now beginning and ending one hour later. This will give the match crew an extra hour to set up stages so we'll be able to have more complicated scenario-style stages.

You can shoot it and not get scored. kle shoots his .38 special revolver.

In for 2200 (man, that's almost past my bed-time...).

I will either shoot my .38 J-frame again (and likely win/lose the revolver class, again), or give my Combat Tupperware a chance to play...

I wanted to say thanks for a good shoot tonight folks, particularly since I had such a short window to make a flight that I did not wish to seem ungrateful. Very cleanly run. Wish I could have said the same about my own performance (to my chagrin...). But this is why we shoot these things... distractions of the day and the evening to come should not be allowed to get in the way of one's performance.

Anyway, as always a pleasure. See you next time around.

Fun match tonight; thanks to the guys running it (I was a little disappointed that Todd wasn't CRO'ing it, but the guys running it in his stead were cool guys, too (didn't get their names)). Ran my baby Glock, did pretty well I think.

So JConn, even if I didn’t get those hilarious 5 procedurals on the last stage, you would have still beaten me, albeit by less than a second.

It was a great match. thanks a lot guys.

And thanks to the ghost of Browning for making an appearance—

Had a great time, as usual. If I hadn't flaked out on the second stage and decided that all the targets needed head shots only, I might have shaved a second or two off. Oh well.

Thanks to all the ROs...those were some fun and interesting stages.

Tuesday July 3.

Signup begins Monday, June 18 at 9AM.

I will not likely be there...on a bicycle ride in Pennsylvannia on the Ghosttown Trail near Dillwood, PA.....

I will shoot the July 1 match in Lewisberry, PA, so I won't have to go more than a week between matches.

Good Luck.

video of my match. the names of the stages are my own.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ojdSQLSMgA

really not that bad for literally not shooting a single round for 3 months.

the dumbest thing I did was of course the epic forgetting about KSTG cover rules on stage 5 (which bumped me from 3rd to 16th in one fell swoop) but the second dumbest and the one I have been thinking most about happened on stage 2. took two well placed shots at the headbox for T1, then proceeded to aim at the headbox of T2 forgetting that I had the whole target to work with. I then readjusted POA to the body, but that little bobble screwed up my rhythm for the rest of the stage. and then I forgot how to shoot an index card on the last target. Possibly because of my deep and enduring love for Tyrion Lannister (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyrion_Lannister#Tyrion_Lannister). best character ever.

I'll upload Vinh's match soon, if he wants me to, that is.

gotta love what ya do.

I mostly used it as an opportunity to further my knowledge of After Effects, specifically the motion tracker. goal was to make the text appear as if it is really there and moving around with the camera. this is accomplished by simulating the motion-tracked text in a 3D space with shadows by using a software spot light. results varied from working very well to sort of mediocre.

I want to make a much more involved opening animation for the next one. while I liked the way I was able to sync it to the music (most manly track ever, been looking for a reason to use it) its obviously very basic.

Mission is complete. Return to base for cocktails.

Its amazing what can be done today with a couple $150 cameras. I am thinking my point and shoot also takes pretty decent video. next match, camera downrange on a tripod for a 3rd view. Angled enough to comply with the range rules and not get anyone else filmed, of course. Should just take a second to set up.

No, the P30 is still my go-to 9mm pistol. After Rogers school, I was probably at my peak performance with the P30, so I thought I'd squander that performance edge by bringing a 1911 out of retirement. It has definitely renewed my interest in shooting. With the P30, I don't mind if I miss a couple months, but the 1911 makes me want to abandon my daughter every single day to go to the range. We'll see how long this reinfatuation lasts.

Gaming opportunities at the 29-May match.

Stage 1: There really wasn't any trick to shooting this stage other than shooting the array from left to right or right to left. Some competitors shot the large center poppers first and then transitioned to the smaller poppers. Shooting the large poppers first added two longer transitions than simply shooting across the array.

Stage 2: Many competitors made two mistakes on stage 2. The first was shooting more head shots than required, and the second was improperly setting up at the beginning of the stage. If you stood perfectly centered in the shooting box, the no-shoot didn't cover either of the -0 zones on the center threat targets. This set-up allowed you to shoot straight across the array without shifting position, but many competitors biased their position to one side of the array requiring them to shift their upper bodies to shoot the center threat targets.

Stage 3: The only gaming opportunity on stage 3 was to shoot the head shot first while closer to the targets.

Stage 4: Again, it was better to shoot the required head shot on T1 first while closer to the target. The fastest shooters on this stage also choose to speed reload after engaging T1 to avoid performing a slide-lock reload while engaging T3.

Stage 5: Since this stage required exactly 11 rounds the smartest thing to do was to shoot it clean and avoid the reload. For 1911 shooters, it was also better to shoot the head shots and 5 shot target first (9 rounds) to avoid an extra transition after the reload.

Nice, it says something that you went from a p30 to a 1911 as a handicap. ;)

I'm still at the stage where every month brings measurable improvement, but I know what you mean. I'm excited to start working on rifle skills - I've got all the gear, but I'm not going to start using it until I get three clean sub-7s FAST runs in a row. Sort of using the rifle as a carrot to push my pistol practice a little harder...

I hope to be at the next kstg, maybe I'll shoot my j-frame. Cause, you know, I peaked on my g19 at Rogers. ;)
