Here's a feel-good story in a week not filled with good news.

Moses Lake, Washington, canine unit pursues robbery suspect after spike strip stop. Dog is shot in the face by suspect. Suspect is shot and killed by handler.

Dog is airlifted to the Washington State University Vet School in Pullman. This is a really awesome facility -- it's an amazing asset, full of sharp vets and hospital-level diagnostic equipment.

From the article:

That’s when they discovered that the bullet had gone straight through Chief’s left eye and then shattered, leaving small fragments of the bullet near his shattered jaw. The bullet never entered his brain or disturbed his jaw joints.

“I mean he has been extremely lucky,” Terradas Crespo said. “Extremely lucky that there was no further damage.”

Chief left eye was removed during surgery, but otherwise he will make a full recovery, Terradas Crespo said."

Whatever it cost to save him, worth every damn penny.
This story makes me wish I had tail, just so I could wag it furiously.

Sweet boy!

He'll probably learn to do just fine with only his right eye, too.

Glad to see Chief is OK, and his assailant isn't.
