Friend of mine is just getting into carrying and has some education already lined up. He plans to go shop around for other guns but at the moment he’s got a Ruger SR40C and wants to find some quality kydex for it. He’s a lefty so 9:00 carry. I don’t see Dark Star, JM, Tenicor or Vdev having one so I’m out of ideas.

Any top notch ideas?

E-mail Tony at JM. He can sometimes do combinations not listed. He took care of me like that.

I've never used their products, but Daraholsters makes some southpaw holsters for the SR40C.

Is this IWB or OWB?

Aholster shows the SR40C https://aholster.com

Dale Fricke shows the SR9C, which I'm pretty sure is the same external dimension as the SR40C https://dalefrickeholsters.com

Garrett Industries has the SR40C https://www.giholsters.com/category-s/213.htm

Tucker shows for some holster models https://tuckergunleather.com/outside-the-waistband-owb-holsters/

Don't take this the wrong way, but what he'd pay for a top quality kydex holster is huge percentage of what a SR40C is worth. New SR40C's are going for less than $300 on Gunbroker right now. Figure that a good holster will cost ~$80-$100 and may require waiting a few weeks, I just don't see that it's worth the expense. I'd try to trade the Ruger for something a little more common and then think about a good holster. Having said all that, carrying that Ruger is way better than carrying nothing, so I wouldn't be too pushy with my particular suggestion.

In any case, I've bought several holsters from Dale Fricke. Dale has always been great about responding to my questions. If you go with him, be sure to tell him it's for a SR40C. I just checked some pictures, and the SR40C appears to have more metal at the muzzle end of the slide than the 9mm version. Making the 9mm slide a little lighter probably lets Ruger use the same recoil spring in both pistols. Based on my Fricke holsters, I'd be surprised if this dimensional difference matters for holster fitment, but it'd be a big disappointment to just assume that a SR40c would fit and then find out the hard way that it won't.

Your friend’s huckleberry:

https://legacyfirearmsco.com/

They’re currently having a 10 percent off sale, with free shipping. You can get, say, the Apollo minimalist for 45 bucks—which, as noted, is about all I’d spend on the kit.

I’ve passed in all of your suggestions to him as well as trying out other platforms ASAP.

It has a rail. Mount a TLR on it and get a Philster floodlight. It is ambi, and can be carried IWB or AIWB. Retention is on the light instead of the trigger or slide, so it will work with any future gun as long as the light is mounted.

…..well if we are going that route, We The People have make one for the SR-9C (I am guessing external dimensions are the same). I used one of theirs for a while. They are well made for cheapie, but replace the clip with pull the dot loops or a belt loop you can drill holes for. The stock clip works, but its sketchy.
