I'm looking at the Taurus model 65 and I'm a former never buy a Taurus guy. Any feedback, good or bad, would be appreciated.

I haven't touched a Taurus in probably 10 years but I have not heard of them getting any better. Best to just avoid them.

From what I've read, they have bought H&K's old "You Suck and We Hate You" machinery.

So you get all the terrible quality control, now with extra terrible customer service too!

I wish I bought a S&W model 65 trade-in, sub $300, when they were out there.

I had the hammer on a Taurus m85 break. Then after it was fixed the trigger broke.

Before that i had a very accurate m65 thankfully fail during a suicide attempt.

Once I figure in the cost of aggravation of sending it to Florida multiple times, then selling it at a major loss, I figure I can't afford guns that cheap.

My rule of cheap gear- it always ends up costing you more in the long run than just buying the good stuff when you start out.

Sample of one - my brother had a mid 1980s model 65.
It never failed, exactly. But it did manage to go out of time and develop end shake repeatedly while sitting in a drawer between range trips.
The armorer at the sheriff's dept where we trained at the time finally told him to put it in his fishing tackle box and to not feel regret if it went overboard.

Much better choice. Which model? Barrel length?

Outstanding choice. You will never look at your 686 and think "I wish I had bought the Taurus."

Is this a company you want to trust with your money or your hands?

I'm digging deep into the secret reserves to hide this purchase from my wife. Thank you all for the input.

You should maintain that lifestyle.

PS: didn't read the whole thread. I'm glad you stepped back from the precipice of stupidity.

Mine shoots high and left about 5'' at 7 yards because the barrel is canted. Came that way from the factory. It's about 23 years old. I only kept it to train dogs using (primed cases) so I guess they might be good enough for training a dog. I suppose it depends on what you want to do with it. ;)

But you can do that with any revolver, you don’t have to sully your hands with a Taurus.

I picked it up at my ffl, finally. Fit and finish are great. The trigger is pretty stiff (my four year old 629 has a much better trigger) but I'm hopeful it'll break in. Next, off to the range. 47935

Never hurts to pull the side plate off and make sure they didn't leave it full of metal shavings.

Shot it today and it is a shooter. Very happy with the purchase. Thanks for the input.
