Thought we should get a Shot Show thread started. Looking forward to reports from any PF’ers who go. What have you guys heard? What are you looking forward to? Ive only been once. For those who regularly go, is Shot basically the same, or has it changed over the years?

Shot is 98% the same year after year.

What makes it exciting is the 2% that changes.

I'm going this year.

Things I'm personally interested in:

-Spyderco Booth: They always display their prototype knives that will be available in 1-2 years.

-NGSW. The Army's new 6.8 weapons systems and ammo. Hoping to see SIG's, TV/GD's Bullpup, and perhaps the Textron offering at the H&K Booth.

-True Velocity. They are reportedly launching their Polymer Case ammunition for the civilian market at SHOT 2020. Hoping to find out exactly what a polymer case 5.56 and 7.62 weighs.

-Shell Shock. Currently they offer 9x19 aluminum/steel cases. I'm hoping they finally offer 5.56 cases this year, and I intend to beg them to make a 5.7x28 case.

-B&T. As I've done the last 2 years, I intend to beg them to make a B&T TP9 that takes Glock mags.

-Ruger. Looking forward to seeing the Ruger 57, along with the new Super GP100.

-Colt. Obviously, need to oggle and dryfire the new Python.

Someone (everyone) please beat up Ruger about making a 5.5-6 inch version of the SP101 in .327 Fed.

If not that, a 5.5-7.5 inch Single Seven Bisley stainless in .327 Fed.

Better yet, badger them about the custom shop actually being a custom shop. At least to the level of allowing ordering combinations of parts that they already make but don't assemble as standard SKUs. Custom assembly, not necessarily custom manufacturing or gunsmithing. Such as the above Bisley model...

And a PCC with a fixed barrel. There are several of us here who would buy one if we were sure the barrel would stay attached.

Crye/Vantage Six12

A Walther PPK in .32 (or .32 NAA?), a P5 Compact would be sweet too.

Ruger Super GP100s with 3” barrels and compact grips.

That’s all I want. Someone keep an eye out for me.

Oh yea tell Smith and Wesson we want a fucking Airweight (Aluminum not Scandium) with a pin on front sight FFS.

I predict many new 1911 and AR variants.

I have a real flare for predictions, in fact some even say I’m a bit psychotic.

I'll be there Sun-Sat and showing my stuff at the VZ Grips Booth (#2243). Looking forward to checking out a LTT 92. I don't get out of the booth much, but always run out to see a few things on my list.

Here’s hoping for more AR variations and GLOCK 19 copies. Some affordable 1911’s from Asia would be cool. Ultimately, a SIG 320 X5 Legion, with a multi-chromatic frame would be sweet. Fingers crossed.

Seriously though, it wouldn’t hurt my feelings if Smith and Wesson announced the option of K, L and N frames without a lock. Nor would I be disappointed if Winchester delivered a Model 70 Featherweight with irons and an 18ish” barrel, in 308.

I’d like to see CZ come out with optic ready P-07/09’s and while we’re on the subject, ditto for HK, maybe an optics ready HK45c, and a P-30..I know I’m dreaming that HK would ever do anything like that, but, I could see CZ doing it, to me, that’s the next logical step with theP-07/09 series..

So my wants are rather simple and boring this year.

Glock 43x with rail. (Add an MOS variant for a shield RMSc if they want to actually do something interesting)

Glock 46.

Glock 47.

Sig USSOCOM SURG upper.

Colt to support their 901 and CM series guns more.

They funny thing is that none of it is new. I just want them to take my money on the items.

The Sig MCX Spear would be cool as well.

All my other bases are covered at the moment by other items.

A very aggressive Schmidt and Bender LEO/Mil purchase program would be well received by me as well.

From the perspective of going to SHOT for fun, it’s neat to be able to see the “new” things and at least get hands on things I’m considering purchasing. At this point though it’s almost more fun to see people in one place that I don’t get to see all the time. Last year A few of us had the opportunity to have a long talk with Ernest Langdon and Jason Burton about all things Beretta, 1911, and Burger King... truly awesome experience.

From a work perspective, it saves time in that I’m not playing phone or email tag and can get answers to questions all in one trip. It also helps keep me aware of what is out there in the industry. There are a couple “new” things I’ll be looking at, but mostly trying to arrange department T&E for some projects and gauge where things are going. Some things I’ll be focusing on (not necessarily new):

Duty Holsters that can accommodate accessories such as optics and WMLs/pressure switches
Pistol Optics Including compact pistol optics
Compact WMLs
Low power variable rifle optics

I doubt there will be anything super exciting but I’ll leave knowing what my year is gonna look like from a project perspective.

Wouldn’t that just be a Glock 43....? Or are you wanting an even shorter barrel?

HCountyGuy

Things that would be interesting even if completely unlikely:

- HK VP45 introduced with only a button mag release just to anger purists.
- P320 chambered in 5.7 because can’t let others expand in to 5.7 offerings without more competition.
- Glock announcing they’re partnering with Tau Dev Group and The Gadget will be standard on all future Glocks.
- Return of the Hudson H9, manufactured by Kimber (Springfield or Colt if you want the gun to have a chance).
- Sig introduces a special edition Jack Wilson P229, only available in .357 Sig.
- Langdon pimps out an XD and the hate for the platform evaporates before SHOT Show is over.

I want a 43 sized gun that will accept 43x-width magazines. It would be physically identical to a 43 but 1mm wider and have a beveled nose. And it will take 10-round 43x mags as extended mags.

I'd be happy to see it come back to Orlando so I could drive down. They used to move it around some. After years of wanting to go, I made it in 2017. It was neat to see, but the cost of airfare, hassle of flying, etc.isnt worth it for me. Plus, Vegas isn't really my kind of place. Glad I saw it, dont need to go back.

If you're going to go only for a couple of days, go at the beginning of the week. By the time Thursday rolls around, everyone is burned out and just waiting to fold their tents and go home.

I don't think Wilson goes to SHOT.

I’d love it if folks would constantly harass Surefire. Where is the XH55G they’ve been showing for years?? Even better I need a couple XR2’s with the green laser they showed last year.

Also, Unity Tactical... stop coming up with new ideas and products until you can actually make and sell existing products. Nothing is ever in stock anymore. The Velcro beacon lights were supposed to be available in a variety of colors. Now you can’t even get the original red... where is the Hot Button?

Finally, Aimpoint - stop lying to us on your data sheets/website. We all know the ACRO battery life is 5% of what they claim. Ideally fix the battery life... but how they advertise what they do with a clear conscience is beyond me.

Come to think of it, th flats time I went, several years ago I didn't see Wilson. Makes me respect them more to not pay the huge ransom to attend SHOT just to have the 15% of show attended who are there to actually conduct business be able to deal with them face to face.

This is a bit of a hijack, but the NRA Annual Meeting does move around. Not to infer that it is the same as SHOT, but there are a lotta vendors. Maybe not so many new product announcements, but plenty of stuff to fondle. I like it that guns on display are samples, not some dude's inventory (I do not like asking to get stuff out of the case I am not ready to buy).

Last year was Indy, this year is Nashville. They also try to pick places that are carry friendly (not always, they try) and that is important to me, just in principal if nothing else.

I am intrigued by the Alien as it has several features from other designs, such as the HK P7 delayed blowback and a sight rail above the slide, combined in a fascinating manner. I wonder how the heat issue with delayed blowback was solved, and what the price of a regular pistol will be. $5000 for a "signature edition" is not exactly forecasting a mass-market entry point. Seeing as the pistol is being built in the Czech Republic, labor costs should be low enough for pricing lower than a Wilson Combat CQB.

mmc45414: yeah, NRAAM does move around, and I've been twice. It's not as big as SHOT, but I'll go again when it comes to my region (if it's in a town I can bear visiting). NRAAM was an hour a way each time I went, so no overnight stays, and I could see everything in a day. SHOT took me 2.5 to see all I wanted to. And I was beyond ready to come home on day 2.5. I would go again, but only somewhere else, like Orlando or somewhere in Texas. Were I still heavily involved in buying stuff on the agency level, I'd plan to go every other year, maybe every 5.
HeavyDuty: concur to the infinite power on holsterops. I've lamented it here and elsewhere. They ALWAYS answered the phone. I ALWAYS spoke to someone who was not only familiar with the product line, but was a shooter as well and knew what I was asking. And I ALWAYS got my order placed and DELIVERED in about a week, tops. And it was right. The Safariland website is abominable, if you get someone on the phone it's a typical call center person, your order will take MONTHS to fill, and its a roll of the dice if it is correct. Hell, I've got friends still doing the procurement thing who have trouble ordering HUNDREDS of holsters. The joint needs an enema.

Right? We've got a Super GP100 in .357 and 9mm, but not .44 Mag?

It seems silly to be running production lines for both the Super GP100, and the old school Redhawk.

I don’t expect much out of SHOT but so far the following have my extreme interest.

Kahles K18i 1-8, I’d like to pair this with a Fix in 8.6 whenever that happens.
Safariland 7TS RDS holsters, fucking FINALLY, still waiting on the VUBL.
Cloud Defensive REIN and REIN micro, just waiting on handhelds and pistol lights next.
Unity Tactical ATOM 2.0, open source free license, I’ll have it done to everything I own.

No I haven't. I'm sure NH (or any other vendor) assumes that I will see an interesting teaser on IG and investigate further. Nope, I just wait until someone digs up the dirt for me. I'm interested, but not enough to research myself

The trigger pack looks great though. Anything that makes the 1911 more user serviceable is a win, in my book. This pack, and another pre-fit barrel and extractor, and your 1911 could be kept running for a loooong time.

I'm sure there will be a video eventually, but if anyone at shot can get more info on the atom 2, how the plates lock in/ interface with the slide e.t.c... for us that are less mechanically inclined that'd be awesome. From pictures I'm assuming that the front of the plate locks under a lip or some such and the rear set screw holds it down but I would like more info for sure.

Regarding the 5.7 ammo:
Is anyone going to make cheap 'shoot 'em up" ammo? Winchester white box version or Blazer, something like that? I'm a .38 super fan but I can reload that, can't reload 5.7 or so I've heard.
My life has changed for the better but it means less reloading time so I'm looking at buying factory ammo for my pistol/s, mostly 9mm. I already buy 5.56 for the rifle.

My issue with it is that it appears to remove all BUIS except maybe some fixed thingy on the back of the plate.

I wonder if an open source free license is the most ingenious part of it. We've been talking about footprint standartization for years, and it only now occurred to me that having a free and open access to a design might be a very powerful propagation tool.

P.S. Somebody, please find out if plates are aluminum or steel.

ATOM 2.0 is open source. No license needed.

Also Sig has atleast 6 different optics cuts it has offered as Factory on the p320. M17 mil, M17 commercial, RX, RXPro, Professional, X-series. None of them are really modular. I think Sig is trying to sell people the gun and optic. I agree that they need to streamline what they have going on.

That's likely just the case for the ACRO plate. If you look at their website they had to do some engineering to fit a BUIS behind the ACRO. The AOS gen 1 ACRO plate looks the same. Their other plates accommodate front and rear plate-mounted BUIS for most popular dot sights.

Finally some coverage of the DWX. https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2020/01/22/shot-2020-dan-wessons-new-dwx-compact-hybrid-2011/

Author says "don't quote me" so I quote him. ;)

"A fairly cool feature of the DWX full size and compact is the fact it takes 1911 trigger components. This makes the trigger incredibly smooth and testing it out, you could definitely tell it was a 1911 trigger. The trigger had very little take-up and broke on a defined wall. I would guess the trigger pull was somewhere around the 4-pound mark but don’t quote me on that."

This is a current state of affairs at the Atom (1) webpage, showing half of the offerings, and all duty-grade optics plates, out of stock.
http://www.unitytactical.com/product-category/atom/
I had to get a spare set of their proprietary RMR plate screws, took a month or so. They make good stuff, although I would've preferred steel over aluminum, but I am uncertain they can support a significant demand. Besides the independent user reviews, I'd like to know who would make what parts under this open access license.

I've mostly dealt with their Fusion line, owning and using most of it over several years, but have had good luck with everything of theirs and their customer service as needed. Reaction and replacement was quick when I received out of spec parts. Their ATOM line has definitely struggled as far as supply and only two shops offering the work on stock slides, so you're not wrong. Hopefully that will change, I've held off on RDS for a long time since I want to avoid direct mill and being stuck with a platform in an evolving market, and the fact the RDS themselves haven't seemed 100% yet, but I think if ATOM 2 is easy access paired with the ACRO and these new Holosun options, it may finally be time to move forward.

Speaking of Holosun, I have never considered them for anything before, but this 509T, 507K and this other unnamed low-profile option Steve Fisher posted on Facebook really has me re-thinking the brand.

SIG told us a couple of months ago, and confirmed to me at the show yesterday, that going forward they're going to a 4 hole pattern optic cut that will accommodate RMR footprint optics and others. There's apparently a small gap in front of the optic when a RMR is mounted, but it doesn't effect function according to them. They are also going to phase out the earlier RX optic cut in favor of the PRO, which keeps a dovetailed rear sight. We'll see. I will say the Romeo 2 sight they debuted looks very promising. Very robust housing, and the option of a fully enclosed emitter with the full shroud.

I also agree Holosuns new optics are very intriguing. I guess we'll see about all of them.

Someone mentioned earlier the Safariland VUBL. Got one In my hands. Very nifty piece of gear. I like it a lot. I'll be running this on my training belt with a QLS.

The Romeo 2 has a thicker, more robust housing, which they claim survives a 5' drop onto the optic with a loaded weapon. It comes with 2 shrouds, which attach a bit differently than the Romeo 1 version. The "bigger" one fully enclosed the emitter. They told me they're formally introducing it at NRA. They also showed me a factory aggressive stippled grip module, which I also found interesting. I'd post pics but the mobile version of this site on my phone no longer seems to have the option.

I thought about replying about supply yesterday. Given the significant lack of any current information, and a historical "out of stock" situation, I'm definitely in a wait and see on the ATOM 2. But, I have a very strong interest, especially if the system works on stuff that is usually problematic, like a CZ-75.

I don't mind the aluminum, and the nice thing about the "open source" aspect is you can take the aluminum someplace and say "make this in stainless" or titanium alloy or whatever your favorite substance is (like 3d printing output?).

On the advice of the former Rangemaster of our sheriffs department....who had drinks last night with the guys from LASD, I checked out the Blackhawk booth today. Saw their new T Series duty holsters....for guns with WMLs and RDS. Also accommodates a DG switch for the light. I can't believe I'm typing these words, but I was impressed. Solid product, very intuitive, and faster than an ALS type holster. The days of the Serpa are gone. They should have them available in about 30 days apparently. Anyone looking for a holster to meet the above criteria should give them a look.

^ First.. sorry we couldn’t meet up. I had to be back home today and the compressed schedule was more intense than I had anticipated. We’re gonna have to make time to do some shooting soon. I have to say I was very impressed with the Blackhawk holster... I still have some questions that a good T&E will answer, but there’s a lot to like there.

I’m happy with the numerous entries into the PMO holster market... and PMOs themselves. Progress is being made, and it will not come without the bumps and hiccups, but that’s how we move forward.

More moving forward...

I can’t speak nationally, but at least West coast, I’ve never felt a more cooperative atmosphere... LAPD, LASD, SFPD, LVMPD, OCSD, and lots of other agencies, Federal, State, and local... are working together to make things better. I feel super fortunate to be a part of it. It will benefit everyone - the cop on the street, the departments for liability, and the public that needs the best cops we can get. We need to keep this up. Equipment is cool, but training is the thing, and SHOT is a great place for trainers and students to meet, network, plan, and reunite. It is also a catalyst for agency reps to communicate and make connections. Now I regret I didn’t have more time. Maybe something to think about for next year... hmmm.

We have a couple non-powered RMRs in green. In Texas in bright sunshine, shooting in the shade or with the range lights dim in at the shooting bench and bright downrange, it washes out really easily. It is one of those situations where, if you're in a normally lit room/building or outside without shade, you won't notice it. But where and when we shoot, it happens all the time.

I am also interested in the BRN 180 lower, maybe someday I'll build one. Not sure what you are expecting regarding the SIG P-210 A but mine has not disappointed me. So, I had to go look because in one of those pics is a label for the DW "Heirloom"

Here it is - https://danwessonfirearms.com/product/heirloom-2020/

And that's cool and all, but I can't help but think that Jason Burton might want to drop a note (or have his lawyer do it) to Dan Wesson to cease and desist the use "Heirloom" as the name for some of their 1911s. Since Heirloom Precision builds custom 1911s and this is on a frickin' 1911; my first thought and why I went to go see, was that Heirloom Precision had partnered with Dan Wesson to offer some features on a production line. They have not collaborated. Heirloom Precision clearly predates Dan Wesson in the use of the term Heirloom in application to branding of a 1911-pattern pistol.

While, in general, I doubt the same people buy them...actually no...I bet the same kinds of people do buy these. Not many folks buy $2400 1911s in the first place and since that starts getting into low-end custom 1911 territory price wise, I imagine a number of them are at least aware of Heirloom Precision. I'd hate to see Jason's brand damaged by a low(er) cost gun touting custom features that isn't built to his exacting specs.

Well.....if you talked to our SWAT guys at the show they would have said they're next! They're pushing hard on me about this. I had a talk with Pannone about his no BS opinion on running them as a service gun, and he seems to be convinced about their durability/reliability. My plan was to get them whatever our next service pistol is, and then upgrade as necessary, but be able to give them two guns....one to train with and one for duty. More of a problem for 30-35 guys with a $2000 gun. Easier with a polymer striker gun. But CDI and OAF and all that. Dont get me wrong.....the Staccato is a sweet shooting gun. I'm just not convinced they "need" it.

Whats unusual is that it uses 2xCR123's in line like a handheld flashlight...

-->I popped the 16650 from my personal EDC Flashlight, and it works! So this is one of the rare pistol lights that can use a large capacity rechargeable battery, in addition to regular CR123's.

Mostly training and mindset.

HopetonBrown clearly doesn’t “get” cops.

To quote the late LT Francis McGee of the NYPD Range, “The average cop would rather have a nice Parker pen than a custom pistol.”

Fact - there’s a percentage of patrol /line agents who are all about advanced training. Most in the middle will do it if you pay them but with bitch about it and do everything half speed and the bottom percentage will file HR complaints about being injured in “excessive” training because they got a scrape or bruise.

Did you ask them what all three of those switches were for in the fire control group?

It looks like tilting the gun to use those offset irons would hurt.

It uses swappable forward ejection, so no concern with brass to the face.

Overall it looks like a pretty cool system.

I didn't get to ask, and actually only noticed the extra switches when re-touching the photos.

From the previous videos / write ups I've seen, I recall prototypes having a split safety / selector system. So one switch is Safe/Fire, and another switch is Semi/Full. Similar to the original STG44.

However, these switches look different then the previous prototypes shown, plus now there's a third switch.

I checked out the Blackhawk booth today.

Missed the PMO compatible part when i checked them. That is good to know.

And, sorry I missed you all.

So, did anyone give Safariland shit about Holsterops?

I did. To everyone at Safariland I talked to. Tommy Campbell (very nice man, by the way) told me they are revamping the website this summer, and it should be better. No commitment to a return of Holsterops, though.

I didn’t even talk to them because I refuse to talk to the guy who was wearing the 7TS optic holster. I don’t care for a holster manufacturer rep arguing with me in an ignorant yet condescending way over what they think is best for my department.

I’m not stupid and I now have lots of options to test. Safariland needs to fix more than their web page.

These twice rifles are ugly and as the Chief Firearms Aesthetic Analyst (CFAA), I know what I'm talking about.

I’m glad Tommy Campbell is still with safariland. He really helped out our dept when we had some issues with holsters.

So for me the 2020 Shot Show boils down to:

Rock River appears to be making an STI-clone
Drop-In 1911 trigger from Nighthawk
Colt still can’t make a gun work right

Did I miss anything really important? Since the new Dan Wesson and the new STI line was introduced pre-SHOT it doesn’t seem like I missed much.

Well, there is that scaled down .22LR Mosin Nagant and Tippmann is apparently now delivering their 9mm gatling guns. So those are pretty awesome.

I think it's a derivative of an Delta P's Brevis II suppressor line (https://www.deltapdesign.com/products/deltapdesgin/suppressor/brevis-ii-ultra-556-nato-rifle-suppressor)

Yes, its a new version of the Brevis II, designed to be as short as possible. Made with metal 3d printing.

It's very cool in a number of ways:

-Shortest suppressor design possible

-Direct attach, further reduces length by eliminating flash hider (-1.5")

-Designed for 100% continuous suppressed use

-3D printing allows internal baffle designs / shapes not possible with machining

To really appreciate what compact system the GD bullpup is:

AUG 20" no suppressor = 31.1"

GD 20" 6.8 w/ Brevis = ~31-32"

So even though the GD fires a much larger, more powerful cartridge, with suppressor, it's only ~1" longer then a 20" 5.56 AUG without suppressor.

A 20" AUG w/ SF 5.56 suppressor = 35.1"

Kind of reminds me of the ZRO Delta Modulus without the modular stuff.

Re Geissele scope...I don't think that's fair, I mean they are machining the body themselves if not producing the entire scope I think that counts for something even if the lenses are coming from elsewhere.
