Old school as in Renaissance.

I try to buy her weapons, not weapon-shaped objects. Which I suspect the majority of replicas are.

Thoughts?

I like the looks of the solid steel one, myself.

I feel your pain, Baldanders. I've been married to a Sicilian woman for 32 years. I sleep with one eye open and a lock on the cutlery drawer.

Don't have anything of value to share on the stiletto front, but it wouldn't hurt to do a search on bladeforums.com
(Pretty much everthing knife related under the sun is discussed there.)

I bet she's thinking of this:

A little more elegant:

I'd recommend a pair. Don't know what she'd do with just one.

Is she looking for something attractive for pride of ownership, something to carry, or some combination of both?

I would check out some stuff from Tod Cutler. It will be period correct and reasonably priced.

https://todcutler.com/collections/medieval-daggers-and-large-knives/products/17thc-stiletto

It’s out of stock now, but they have lots of different daggers.

Check out his YouTube channel here: https://m.youtube.com/user/todsstuff1

And we should get Trooper224 in here, he probably knows a guy who has or can do what you want.

Are you talking hand made cost of a new pistol grade, or representative sample made from decent grade of steel in 3rd world country but usable quality?

There are a few makers of the second type that make functional grade stuff. This is one place to look. http://www.kultofathena.com/daggers.asp

I came into a parrying dagger by Windlass, http://kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=401726 it was reasonably priced and I like it. It seems to be reasonably well regarded as a piece in its type/price range, made similarly to the older pieces, hand forged, wavy finish in the light, and good enough I can appreciate it. I also dont own any handmade 1911s or expensively modified revolvers, basic factory versions work fine for me. Choose your poison.

I'll second the recommendation for Leo Todeschini (Tod). I have several daggers made by him. Leo does great work at very reasonable prices. His work is intentionally left with a few imperfections, in order to reflect their handmade nature as seen in the original specimens. They're also solid weapons. Some of the best stuff out there in terms of historic authenticity.

Dagger examples: https://todsworkshop.com/collections/historical-daggers

Arma Bohemia also makes pretty solid stuff. Here's some of their daggers: http://www.armabohemia.cz/Novestr/daggersA.htm

Not to put too fine a point on it, but what's your preferred price range?

Oh, you and I have more and more in common. But mine is an Irish woman (“born and bred”). Think Maureen O’Hara in The Quiet Man.
And there’s a cast iron frying pan “seasoning” in the oven.... I think she just likes to keep it handy.

What's more dangerous is that we have Sicilian and Irish mix lasses in the family...danger abounds!

Nope, that's what I want. 😍

She came to her desire by coming across the term "poignard" in a novel, she asked me what it was, we googled, conversation.....etc., eventually I said "you what you want is a stilleto," and I showed her one of these:

And that was the "right thing."

My wife may not have an encyclopedic knowledge of weaponry, but she has very specific tastes, if she cares.

Like pistols should be "semi-automatic and black."

When I mentioned lack of soul in pistols, Glock was the first thing she thought of.

Yes, there may be some osmosis as well in our household.

And she has her new Beretta 81BB whispering in her head of dreams of Italian beauty.

She would kick me in the nuts rather than wear those.

No.

Wow, I need another drink, and possibly a cold shower, after looking at those links.

I have one of these. A disappointment in every way.

This would be better. Depending on price range, an original would be better still.

Poignard. That was what I linked to, I didnt use the term, I didnt think most would recognize it. 14 1/2" blade. It has somewhat of a presence.

Darksword Armory also has some nice work, so far not in my budget.

For it to be a purchase in the next year, say under $200.

I would have said about $300 for a more long-term purchase, but some posts here have made me think about upping that a bit.

Unfortunately, I am also reminded I promised myself a real fighting knife to go with all my handguns long ago. My favorite knife is my Wustof cleaver. Most of our knives are shit.

Hey, instead of wordplay, maybe you could make posting pics like that more often your P-F shtick.

1. Go to kult of athena
2. choose battle ready blades
3. Pick one she likes
4. Google up some reviews
5. Order
6. Smack blade firmly on phone book to check tang
7. ?????
8. profit

I bought an albion crecy sword just to have a couple of years ago. Pretty neat long, stabby thing and satisfies my irrational want of a historically accurate bastard sword.

I did LOL on this one.

This seems to be the best low-end option.
