I've carried the Fox Labs OC in the past. My supply is out of date and wanted to buy some as gifts for Christmas. Nothing says love like OC.
Went to order some more and saw this:
https://shop.foxlabs.com/collections/five-point-three/products/2oz-2-oc-flip-top-heavy-stream-spray-pattern
The link basically says *To be updated soon* Anyone know what the change will be and why?
Looking over the rest of their site, I see that they have introduced this product: https://shop.foxlabs.com/collections/five-point-three-squared
This product talks about: "1.4% major capsaicinoids while only having a pepper content of 4%. In addition to increasing the potent stopping power, this continues to provide the added benefit of quicker decontamination than higher percentage formulas. With this being the new focus, we are thrilled to introduce FIVE POINT THREE2."
Basic question is should we just buy the old tried and true formula or the new stuff?

Smarter and more experienced minds than mine have suggested Sabre Red (not the gel) as the goto pepper spray.

I used to carry Sabre Red, but found the package a bit too big (that's what she said! ;) ). I now carry PIM. The package is more discrete, making multiple passes through security at Disney, and smaller, which makes it take up less space in my pocket. There were reports of the clips breaking, but I've carried mine since August in Florida and Virginia heat and now Virginia cold and it hasn't as much as cracked.

Chuck Haggard said Fox Labs blows.
Pom is the new favored brand. I tried to use Fox a couple years ago and it shit the bed.

I prefer Bodyguard brand OC. Oh course that was back in 1998 when I was in the academy. A little back story I love hot sauce. I order all sorts of different sauces. So the day I got sprayed I brought tortilla chips and queso cheese dip to go a long with the pepper spray. I got sprayed and my first thought was man this shit tastes great. A nice leathery cayenne pepper flavor. Then my face melted off and I choked on bodily fluids but it tasted great. Then I and the class snacked on the chips n’ dip. So if you want a great tasting spray which if you use it you will get some on you anyways, why not get a brand that tastes good too and works rather well?

I haven’t used Fox Labs in over 12 years, but when I used it on people and aggressive dogs it worked extremely well.

I found that Fox lost it's propellant pretty quickly.

My current agency issues Sabre Red. It is the worst spray that I’ve experienced (by worst, I mean most painful).

Once you use OC, expect to replace it soon since you punctured the seal.

I found that after a year or two, new unused ones would just dribble. For curiosity, I tested them. Other brands sprayed after a much longer time. I suppose one should trade out periodically, we do now. Carrying a Sabre, recently.

Maybe it was a more recent batch, but I carried and used it with years with great results and no issues.
That being said, I’d have no qualms about substituting it with the good Sabre Red.

Pom is the new favored brand.
I've read about entirely too many instances of the POM cases cracking for me to switch from Sabre Red.

I love Sabre Red. The last guy I sprayed dropped like I’d hit him with an axe handle.

I've been carrying the same unit since early August with no signs of the plastic cracking or breaking. Some of the pants I clip it to are thick (ie Duluth Firehose work pants).
That's clipping on and removal at least once nearly every day.
I am not concerned about it any longer. I'll probably pick up a few other units for my wife and kids now that I've had lengthy experience with mine.
I'll also note that Pom is what John Murphy is using in his pepper spray class.

We have close to a dozen POM units among friends and family members, with some being carried for the better part of this last year. The only issues we've had are that some of the bottom sleeves (that slide over the actual cannister and where the clips are attached) have come loose and a couple have resulted in lost units.
A small bit of glue seems to prevent this.
Just a heads up for anyone who plans to purchase the POM trainers, they do not come as a full unit. You have to reuse the sleeve from a live unit or wrap them with tape to fully simulate deploying from a pocket or keychain.
I carry the POM product when there might extra scrutiny, but generally prefer the larger SabreRed unit.

I like the POM for the form factor of the case and clip, and the fact that it is a flip-top. The reports of fragility don't exactly inspire confidence though.
It looks like Sabre has a similar flip-top (albeit without the handy clip):

Are those cases holding up any better? Is there a better option in that "mini-MK-6" niche?
How are the clips in the Sabre MK-6 units? Is it small enough to fit in a pocket?
Is this the one I'm after?

We recently switched from Saber Red fog to stream and gel is a personal purchase option.
Compared to the fog the stream and the gel both suck. The fog didn’t have much range and got on everyone, it had tremendous effect on the respiratory system. While not it’s intended use, fogging a suspect in the mouth and nose was way more effective than any OC in the eyes.
The gel isn’t anything like the old foam/gel crap. The old stuff was like shaving cream and if you didn’t get it in the suspect’s eyes it was useless. The new stuff has is more like cooking oil in consistency. The stream is a little more forgiving as far as accuracy, it’s not that different. If you hit a suspect in the hair line with gel it’ll have minimal effect, spray will work a little (and just a little) better. Across the eyebrows they are the same. Across the eyes they’re the same.
The real difference will be dogs. Dogs don’t overreact and act like pussies when the get sprayed, (any person that gets dropped by OC is a pussy, it’s not the OC). So there’s no reason to try spray a moving dog directly in the face or muzzle, whatever you want to call. A lot of spray in an X pattern over and around the dog puts up a wall of irritant, that usually works as a deterrent. Gel is no good for that.

Our jail deputies go through a fair amount of Sabre Red. Works as intended.

If my friends and family had a decent size sample of a potentially life saving product, and roughly one out of every six of them fell apart causing the potentially life saving product to be lost, I wouldn't refer to it as the only issues. I'd refer to it as the really big fucking problem that makes the product a hard no-go until the company unfucks it.

This is what we were using a few years ago but started having difficulty finding it and when we did it was always the Gel. They were fairly sturdy.

I prefer the fog as well. Yes, there is a higher likelihood of cross contamination and the range isn’t as good as the stream, but especially for non-dedicated personnel, I think it’s much easier to make a decent “hit” on a miscreant. Sabre used to make a small fog spray called the Spitfire, which used to be my go-to as a spray I can keep on my keychain or in my pocket, but sadly, they don’t seem to make it anymore.
Does Sabre make any other small, pocketable fog sprays?

I agree and that's why every unit we get now gets glue added to the part that separated and everyone has been shown and warned that if you attach a heavy key ring or similar to the POM unit and pick up the entire setup by the POM unit it clearly can separate (the likely cause of both instances of it happening). There have been no issues since I started doing this. If there was we would find another option.
If I had my preference everyone in the family would carry the larger SabreRed container that I prefer, but that's not realistic at this point.
