Here's an original M16 by the late, great Kit Carson that the knife is based on. Kit built this one with a Stellite 6K (rust proof, non magnetic) blade, and all titanium construction (including screws, pivot, spacer etc). He offered me the knife at a Blade Show years ago when I helped him man his table.

I have a love/hate relationship with these knives. I have one of these in my pocket now, except its the black tanto version (M16-10KZ). I can say that I have owned about 10-15 of these through the years. Most get thrown away at airports or lost.

The first one I bought was $20, down from $39.99 IIRC. In the past, they have been as cheap as $7.99, so I bought 5 or 6 of them.

Pros:
They look good, duh! They are cheap.

Cons:
The double safety is a mystery to anyone I lend the knife to, but I am used to it as this has been my EDC forever. Even my wife is now proficient in closing the blade.

My biggest beef: if you work the knife really hard the locking bar thing can get stuck and the knife will not close. I think this is a common issue with these types of systems. I use car keys to get it unstuck.

I am down to 2 of these things and I threaten to find another knife to carry. But then the deals come around and it pulls me back in.

+1 to this. I recently dug out mine and realized I had forgotten how good it is at the basic tasks I actually use a folder for on a daily basis: opening/breaking down boxes, cutting cord and tubing, minor whittling, minor digging out of splinters and putting holes in things. The point is nice and thin, the subtle recurve cuts great without difficult resharpening, they seem to have done a decent job with heat-treat, I like Emerson disc, and the liner lock works better than most knives at that price point.

Mine came today. After playing with it a bit and carrying it for the evening, I can't imagine when I'd choose it over one of the other knives I've been carrying lately. It will make a nice white elephant gift for the holiday party this year. Lots of engineers and tech people; someone will like it.

The biggest annoyance is the thumb stud, which is wider than the grips and adjacent to the clip, so it always hangs up on the edge of my pocket. And the handle doesn't work well with my hands. It's a big blade-to-handle ratio, but that's actually kind of a problem. Not enough to hang onto, so excessive care is required.

Got mine today, probably not displacing any of the Spydercos, but for the $15 it is worth practicing the deployment method. Nice little piece of kit, will be handy to have around, even if not in the EDC rotation. So thanks for the tip!!

Good synopsis. Both arrived shaving sharp. Great knives for the price. WRT the CRKT, once the knife breaks in a bit, you can get the blade to lock just by flicking the knob on the back of the blade, but it is not 100% so far.
