View Full Version : IWB mag pouches
I'm looking for a good IWB mag pouch to try - something that would be comfortable being carried around the 11:00 position and preferably reverse cant.
Any suggestions?

I've tried a couple of different IWB mag pouches over the years (both leather & kydex) and have never found any to be comfortable. Not sure why but to me they are more difficult to get right than IWB holsters.

I like the bianchi 21, and have two of them(P30 and G19).

I carry it same way you want to and like it. I did trim the leather a bit to get a better grip on the floor plate of the magazine.
It can rotate to cant however you prefer so it works for lefties and righties.

I've had the same experience as VolGrad with IWB mag pouches having tried several. They are hard to make comfortable and fit right, so I usually just use a low profile OWB pouch.

The Dale Fricke Archangel AIWB mag pouch works quite well.
It's what I used up until I started carrying a horizontal.

I've found the Raven Concealment mag pouch to work well IWB. For 11 o'clock carry get it with the Magpul cut as otherwise it tends to dig into your leg when you sit. It's bulkier than other designs due to the offset loops but that makes for a flat profile and way more comfort IMO, than the IWB pouches with the loop on top of the magazine, which I have always hated when I used them.
I am currently borrowing Jody's DF mag pouch and it is awesome. It works really well for me.

I also use the DF Archangel IWB mag pouch, and it is most excellent. Carried between 11 and 11:30, I use a reverse cant, which not only makes it comfortable but presents it at a near-ideal angle for a fast draw. Even with a +6 Arredondo mag extension on a G17 magazine (my preferred spare mag configuration) it is also very concealable. All in all, no complaints. I can't see why someone would use an OWB mag pouch at 9 o'clock over something like this.

Me three.
I have gone to the Safariland Universal mag pouch, which holds a variety of magazine sizes from small to Glock 10mm, as my 90 per cent solution for daily carry. It is secure, reasonably fast, low volume, and doesn't look like a magazine carrier.

I've been using the horizontal dale fricke pouch for a couple of months. I like it, but it does stick out a lot - which is why I wanted to try out an IWB pouch.
Does anyone make something more low profile in either leather or kydex?

James Dean Gunleather made me a really nice low profile leather horizontal for a very reasonable price.
If you check his Facebook page he has it featured in photos.
I still use the Fricke kydex for hard range use, but now carry the James Dean leather.

I've got a Comp-tac IWB mag pouch on the way right now. I need something tuckable for when I need to wear suits when a client is in the office. I've had good success with the MTAC under those circumstances so I thought I would give it a try. I should have it by tomorrow.
On monday, I decided to check the soundness of the concept by stuffing a bare mag in my waistband and tucking my shirt over it at around the 9 position. Wore it all day with no comfort issues (although I did have to tighten the belt a notch to insure against slippage). Based on that, I don't see how putting in an actual pouch would post a problem. If there was, I think using the Comp-tac's adjustability to give it a higher rise might solve that problem.

I've got the Comp-tac and I wore it for a while for tucked in wear. I'm not really a fan - you end up with a ton of stuff jammed into your pants so while an AIWB hoslter is comfortable and concealable even when tucked for me - I found the mag pouch to be pretty uncomfortable. And, tucked in - its a pain to get to, it certainly isn't much or any faster than a pocket carried mag, which has become my go-to for tucked in carry. If my shirt is untucked I don't see a need for an IWB mag pouch, because my shirt is untucked. YMMV of course, but for me it was a concept that really didint' pan out.
To address the OP concerns - the comptac is very low profile, on the other hand - it doesn't stay open, I don't really see this as an issue as far as CC mag pouches go, but it does make it more difficult for any volume of practice.

I recently found this company.

Their IWB mag pouches look like they could be promising.

Another good IWB magazine pouch option is the Mini C Magazine Carrier (http://gonetraining.blogspot.ca/p/101-mini-c.html), available from 101 Holsters (http://gonetraining.blogspot.ca/).

It's all in the execution. Look for an email soon about the below. All I can say is this mag pouch literally disappears a mag IWB. I'll show it here first...

Just ordered a JM Custom AIWB. Can anyone offer recommendations for OWB or IWB mag pouch to go with it? This is an old thread - is Dale Fricke's stuff still a good way to go? Anyone have experience with JM Custom's mag pouches?

I've got a JM single mag pouch. It and a Kytex are about all I ever use anymore.

Wow Steve, that IS impressive! I look forward to seeing it roll out. I just may have to pick up a couple of those for my 1911 mags.
