http://www.alertwildfire.org/blmnv/index.html gets you to the Alert Wildfire camera system. There's a drop down in the upper left that lets you select different areas. This started as a project to mount a few cameras on mountain top sites that already had infrastructure for the University of Nevada seismology lab, and assess whether or not they contributed to early wild fire detection in remote areas. It grew from there. There are projects under way to try various algorithms that recognize turbulence due to thermal disturbance before smoke becomes visible and that sort of thing with an eye towards automating detection even further. Click on a thumbnail to bring that view to the main window.
The cool thing is that these are high quality cameras with great views. If you want to see what a lot of western landscapes look like, this is a great site to visit. Sunrise and sunset can be spectacular, especially when there is smoke in the air or the storms are popping. If you right click the main view you can select a time lapse of up to 12 hours.
