Week 29: AMRAP Torture
results may be posted until 11:59pm EST on Monday 23-April-2012.

Range: 3yd
Target: 6 2" circles (download a .pdf target here (http://pistol-training.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/6x2in-circles.pdf))
Start position: holstered
Rounds fired: varies

This is another AMRAP (http://pistol-forum.com/showthread.php?3577-DotW-25-AMRAP-Burst-from-Ready&p=60326&viewfull=1#post60326) drill. "AMRAP" means As Many Rounds As Possible.

First, establish a baseline. Time yourself drawing and hitting each of the top three circles once. For the AMRAP par time, add one second then round up to the next highest half second. So e.g. if it took you 2.3 seconds to hit three circles, you'd add one second (3.3) then round up to 3.5 seconds total.

Next, using that par time, draw and hit as many of the circles as you can in the allotted time. Fire one round at each circle then transition to the next in order from 1 to 6. If you miss a dot, you can make it up (fire more rounds until you hit) before moving on to the next circle but you can only count one hit per dot no matter how many rounds you fired. If you hit number 6 and still have time left, take two-tenths off your PAR for remaining runs. After each run, check the target and the timer to make sure you know how many actual hits you scored within the time limit.

Starting position is holstered. Whether you use an open holster, retention holster, or concealed holster is up to you. Just be consistent and start the same way each time. If you cannot draw from a holster at your range, simply indicate what starting position you used.

You'll repeat the drill a total of ten times. With each repetition, try to push yourself a little bit harder to make just one more hit.

Please report the following when you post your results in this thread:

Starting position (open, concealed, or retention)
Number of shots fired and number of hits for each rep

Training with firearms is an inherently dangerous activity. Be sure to follow all safety protocols when using firearms or practicing these drills. These drills are provided for information purposes only. Use at your own risk.

Shooting an RDS equipped pistol at 3 yds SUCKS!

Started the day with the 3 Defoor Pistol Tests. Best clean FAST was 5.56s.

Also shot a NRA B8 target 2 hand slow fire at 25 yds 10 rds each using both the RDS and then just irons:

RDS = 99-5x
Irons = 74-0x

For me, at this time in my life, the RDS is FAR more accurate.

Base time 3.24, so I set the par at 4.5
Format is Rounds fired/Hits/# over time, followed by my notes for each string

1. 6/3/0 Whoa there, slow down
2. 6/6/1 Ok, now push it a little
3. 5/4/0 Flubbed the pressout
4. 6/4/0 Get your hits, slow down
5. 6/6/0 Good
6. 4/3/0 Only had 4 rds in gun, dropped last shot
7. 6/6/1 Speed up a little
8. 6/5/0 Slow down on pressout
9. 6/5/0 get your hits!
10. 6/6/0 good

I am not particularly happy with the results, I will try this one again.

Starting position: concealed in CCC Shaggy underneath untucked polo

Initial (1-2-3) time: 2.18. That made initial PAR 3.5 seconds.

1: 6 for 6 (PAR dropped to 3.3s)
2. 5 for 6
3. 5 for 6
4. 6 for 6 (PAR dropped to 3.1s)
5. 5 for 6
6. 6 for 6 (PAR dropped to 2.9s)
7. 6 for 6 (PAR dropped to 2.7s)
8. 6 for 6 (PAR dropped to 2.5s)
9. 4 for 5
10. 4 for 5

I was absolutely shooting faster than I could fully process what I was seeing and doing during those middle runs (#s 6-8 especially). As much as I'd like to pretend otherwise, this was way past my normal capability. The wheels obviously fell off at the end. Taking away less than a quarter of a second not only cost me an entire shot, it also forced me to speed up so much that I couldn't even get hits with the shots I did get off.
