The Charlotte Observer ran an article delving into why county prosecutors were dismissing almost 70% of gun crime charges, and comparing stats to other NC counties.

Excerpts:

"From late 2007 to 2014, Mecklenburg prosecutors dismissed 13 consecutive weapons charges against him, records show. He was free on Jan. 5, 2015. That was the day McGill shot and killed Robert Miller, a childhood friend."

"From 2014 through 2018, Mecklenburg prosecutors dismissed 68 percent of weapons charges . . ."

And we need some more gun laws?

It's all about the statistics.
Statistics need to show a certain demographic doesn't commit more gun crime? Don't prosecute them for that crime. Poof, statistics show gun crime is down among that demographic.
Want statistics to show another demographic is the real problem in America? Prosecute that demographic with zero tolerance. Poof, statistics show a rise in crime among that other demographic.

^^^That’s right. Take it into the realm of JV crimes, and that’s part of how you get things like Parkland happening in low-crime schools/towns.
