RFI - Training in Los Angeles (and rest of SoCal)

I’m going to be spending time in LA and I am interested in classes (and maybe a training group).

I’m pretty aware of the ‘national’ trainers and can figure out when they pass through.

But I’m really interested in finding the switched on local instructor(s) that may be under my radar. There’s got to be some folks doing good things, right?

It might be difficult to find unknown gun trainers who are as capable as the, ahh, senior instructors.

Personal experience: I know several highly ranked martial artists who teach, and I know several of the same rank who do not teach. Those who have taught for several years are invariably better in their Art than those who haven't. It's not a secret why that's the case: teachers spend more time on the mat. I would imagine that the same observation would apply with shooting instructors.

Who said ‘unknown?’ There’s a difference between people flying below my radar because I’m not from around here and being unknown because they suck. I know good trainers in NoVa that people in CA probably haven’t heard of. (Who outside of Virginia would be aware of John Murphy just a few years ago unless they happened to read about him here?)

Secondly, I’m not really interested in debating here if it’s possible to be a good instructor and choose not to spend 30 weeks a year on the road teaching classes.

There are a lot of people in California. Lots of LEOs, lots of ex-military, a fair amount of USPSA shooters. For all I know, there’s a local guy that teaches weekend classes because he’s got a full-time job and isn’t interested in criss crossing the country teaching classes. I'm not arrogant enough to thing only big-name trainers can teach me anything.
