View Full Version : Discreet shotgun/rifle case for something that doesn’t really breakdown east...

Never really owned a long gun. Felt really awkward today leaving the house with the 1301 in the case it comes with. I don’t like to draw attention from neighbors and passerby walkers/drivers alerting them they hat there are guns in the house. Anyone have any good bags that look less like I’m going along a gun to the car and maybe more like I’m packing to leave my wife? lol

I have one of these:

https://www.amazon.com/UTG-Homeland-Security-Covert-Black/dp/B001WJ52U6/ref=sr_1_9?keywords=Two+rifle+discreet+case&qid=1567259417&s=gateway&sr=8-9

Works well, hold a bunch of stuff and doesn’t look exactly like a gun case.

I bought a ~$20 backpack guitar case from Amazon and used extra foam from Pelican cases to fill in the base.

How long is your 1301? What else are you transporting with it regularly (range gear/work gear)?

Take a tape measure to REI sometime and check it out, but you should be able to get a long gun to fit diagonally inside some of the larger Eagle Creek/Osprey/Noth Face/REI rolling duffel bag. I recommend the rolling ones because they have a frame that keeps the bag stiff so it won't look as odd as a soft duffel bag with a long, hard object in it. You could put the shotgun or rifle in a cheap/simple soft gun case and pack your range or work stuff on either side of the gun case.

Similar - I use this gig bag from Guitar Center - https://www.guitarcenter.com/Musicians-Gear/Acoustic-Guitar-Gig-Bag.gc

I took some pvc foamboard (https://www.amazon.com/PVC-Foam-Board-Sheet-Flame-Resistant/dp/B01FG7QAAU/ref=asc_df_B01FG7QAAU/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312130921424&hvpos=1o3&hvnetw=g&hvrand=4302338113738506472&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9021740&hvtargid=pla-569989243348&psc=1) to give it shape and then pelican case foam to give it 3D depth.

Easy to carry in and out of the house. One time a neighbor asked me what I played. I said, "Some cheap Chinese guitar. I'm taking lessons right now." That was the only discussion I've ever had.

Guitar case FTW.

I got rid of a guitar a while back. Kept the case, for this very reason.

Can't go wrong with a Lamp Box if you want something no-profile. Toss in the 1301 with a soft case, single piece of tape closure on the top, and you could be moving or selling something:

I'd say discreet cases aren't, but I've carried them in and out of hotels and never had anyone question me. My Pelican case has a bunch of weird non-gun related stickers on it: sports teams, fishing gear companies, bumper stickers, whatever I've picked up free. I think it's pretty decent camo.

Promedia Gear large tripod bag; big enough to hold more than one gun. Let’s see if this link works; I have no affiliation with the maker or seller, other than being a multi-time satisfied customer:

Unrelated to the topic at hand, but that's very similar to how I moved my guns the last two times we've moved. We had a moving company coming to take everything, but I'd already packed up the valuables, booze, and guns with the rest of the stuff (clothes, toiletries, etc.) we were taking in our own Penske truck. I used a couple wardrobe boxes intermingled with our other stuff (we were moving into corporate/temp housing while our stuff went into storage) and all the boxes were packed and had tamper evident tape (https://www.amazon.com/TamperPack-Evident-Security-Message-tampered/dp/B07KB35S5T/ref=sr_1_9?crid=FXLAGBDRWI3D) on them when the movers got there. I loaded the stuff onto my little Penske truck and that was it. The head guy asked if the guns were still in the safe, told him they'd already been sent ahead.

I like this - the right size / shape, but very generic.
Bookmarked for future use.

Anyone else ever think about using a golf bag to haul long guns to the range?

Same. I'm liking that one. Probably pretty sturdy too given the heft that some of those tripods have.

I know a couple folks that have used hard sided golf club/bag travel cases to haul guns to the range.

I was recently shopping for a tennis bag. When I was reading the reviews trying to decide which one to buy, I was surprised at how many mentioned if their rifle would fit. I didn't pay much attention to the details, but I think they were mostly discussing ARs. Might be another option.

I bought a bright red hockey gear bag a while back, works great for ARs plus accessories. Unfortunately, draws a lot of unwanted attention as GA is not a big hockey state :(

I use a little Adidas gym back for all my pistol stuff. Nothing about it says "Gun stuff inside." It's plausible I'm just heading to the gym after work.

I have one that carries one of my 21” 870’s, pricey but well made. It’s long but similar to the case for a folding lounge chair I once had. There is room at the bottom for a small zippered pouch (now discontinued by Midway) containing four 5 round ammo boxes, a sling and a couple choke tubes. The internal velcro patch holds an extra six round sidesaddle of extra ammo too. Really works well as camouflage for moving the gun in and out of my truck.

They make a shorter version now that probably works more discretely with shorter shotguns

Will it work with a micro red dot mounted on low mount.

None of my shotguns have RDS, but the bag is big enough that you could probably wiggle it in. It may look like your chair has a lump on it…

Get a couple of airline baggage tags to toss on the handle. Maybe crumple one up, tear one off leaving the elastic string still attached... Not that I’ve ever done anything like that... People carry all kinds of shit.

Gotta love a company with a sense of humor. Good looking product too, though I'm a fan of the "put the gun bag in an old, ratty duffel bag" school of concealment. Add stinky laundry for extra security.

Instructions not clear. Chair have backs and a shotgun doesn't have a back. Using it as a stool is OK then, right?
