No offense Rob, because I've read enough of your posts to know that you're a sharp guy, but...

Just look at the home page: http://www.rense.com/

I know. I'm not actually concerned, but I had about 20 emails from friends when I got home, freaking out about this. so I figured, it's the Romper Room, time for a laugh

Hmmm. A map from a company that sells radiation detectors to the public, predicting a huge need for purchases of their products.

I'm convinced ;)

Just think of all the fun you'll have using the extra hand to draw back your cover garment, and improve your FAST time.

You say that now but wait until a zombie eats your spleen. http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg10/imdavid/5d4b952b.gif

but then I'd get to be a zombie. no more worries then, just wandering around aimlessly, eating people, relaxing, eating somemore people, relaxing some more. Probably a nice break actually.

When you put it like that it doesn't sound all that bad.

reports are just getting better and better. There seems to be a good chance all 6 reactors are going to go to shit. They really do need Godzilla right now.

I wasn't around at the time but when the USA nuked Hiroshima and Nagasaki did the west coast people worry about it blowing across the pacific to them? Or was that fallout less threatening? Maybe it was the lack of a 24-hour news cycle?

Nuclear bombs that go off 2500 feet up as those two did generate much less fallout than surface strikes. Fallout is just radioactive dirt and debris, so air bursts don't cause nearly as much. In 1945 no one knew about fallout anyway.

There's a lot of conflicting opinion on how serious the reactor problems are. Scientists involved in the anti nuke movement say the end is near, and scientists in the nuclear power industry say it is a mess there, but unlikely to be a big problem elsewhere. Unbiased sources with access to actual data are hard to find.

Much of the literature on the subject suggests the opposite:

After an air burst, fission products, un-fissioned nuclear material, and weapon residues vaporized by the heat of the fireball condense into a fine suspension of small particles 10 nm to 20 µm in diameter. These particles may be quickly drawn up into the stratosphere, particularly if the explosive yield exceeds 10 kt.
