Been meaning to post this for a while....
IF you needed some motivation to keep up on your CPR certification.. Here it is.
HB1078, now law, becomes effective 1-Sep-19. This new law waives the fees for both Drivers Licenses and Handgun Licenses for Texans who hold a current CPR certification.
** There's a carve-out for people who are required to be certified for their job. I don't know why they are exempted from the fee waivers.

House Bill 1078 amends the Government Code and Transportation Code to waive the fees for the issuance of a driver's license or handgun license for certain applicants who hold a current CPR certification. The bill requires the Department of Public Safety to establish a record of the amount of fees for the issuance of a driver's license that would otherwise be deposited to the credit of the Texas mobility fund if not for the fee waiver provided under the bill's provisions and to remit general revenue in an amount equal to that amount of those fees to the comptroller of public accounts for deposit to the credit of the fund.

411 is the handgun code. Similar language is also added to section 521 (DL code).
Sec.411.1954.WAIVER OF CERTAIN FEES FOR CERTAIN
APPLICANTS WHO HOLD CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION CERTIFICATION.
(a) Notwithstanding any other provision of this subchapter, the
department shall waive any fee required for the issuance of an
original or renewed license under this subchapter if at the time of
the application the applicant for the license submits to the
department satisfactory evidence that the applicant:
(1)holds a current certification in cardiopulmonary
resuscitation issued by the American Heart Association, the
American Red Cross, or another nationally recognized association;
