Officials say the deputy commissioner for Baltimore City Police and his wife, were robbed at gunpoint Friday night.

The incident happened around 9 p.m. near Patterson Park in the city's southeast area.

The victim, Danny Murphy, was able to tell police that a white SUV with four people inside pulled up to them as they were walking. Police say, two black males, believed to be 18, got out of the SUV, showed a handgun and demanded the victims hand over their property.

A purse, wallet, and cellphones were taken.

Impossible. Maryland has very strict gun control laws.

You would think a Police Commissioner would have more sense than to walk in Soufeast Balmer at 9pm. Or anytime, really.

My great aunt lived at Bentalou Street in SW for many years, off Wilkens. I visited her once in the 90s with family. The neighbourhood had become quite diverse, even then. We, uh, stuck out.

Also, +1 on unpossible due to MDs "common sense" Gun Control regulations. I'm sure this is fake news.

Maryland's gun problem is Virginia's fault because our gun laws are so lax thanks to easy Internet purchases and that pesky gunshow loophole.

I knew there had to be some plausible explanation for this.;)

I'll have to admit, I got a bit of a chuckle out of this.. Having worked in Baltimore back in the 90's, out at Sparrows Point, I can honestly say it was one place I was glad to see in my rearview mirror..Baltimore was a shithole then, and it dosen't look like things have changed much..

The Schaden is especially Freude on this one.

(WTF is the "Compliance Bureau" that the vic is the boss of?)

I also liked the typo in the URL...... "friday-might"

Edited to add: Never mind, I looked it up. He's the guy who ensures that the cops dance to the Federal tune. (https://www.linkedin.com/in/danny-murphy-60219224)

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that the baby commissioner was unarmed at the time of the attack.

I've done some research on this.

This guy is actually a civilian. He's not a cop. He has never been a cop. He is a "compliance officer" or whatever because of the Federal consent decree that BPD has been under since a little after the Freddy Gray thing ( the gift that keeps on giving). So he probably doesn't even have a gun.

This guy? I'm not Chuck Norris, or Frank Hamer, or Nolan Ryan (see what I did there?) but this guy better go through life looking really angry. How does he not get robbed every day?? I don't mean by violent felons, I mean by little old ladies!!

Somebody should send him a "Welcome to Balmer, Asshole" greeting card. Maybe it might cause him to rethink his perspective regarding the cops and the city.

This guy looks like he carries a gun and at least two knives, one is a stiletto. Bad guys would avoid him.

Bill Gates' little brother.

I've been in an elevator with BG.
He possesses "the switch".
Don't know that he's ever had to flip it, but it's there.

Compliance officers for federal consent decrees are normally attorneys.
