So I have a lot of time to kill at work. Reading to improve the grey matter, practicing knots for tying, and ultimately looking at gun porn and pondering how to finance said crazy ideas...OH LOOK! You have a G34 you've been trying to sell. You sell that, and you can get back into the RDS on your carry pistol game again.

Originally way back when 8MOA dots were considered perfect for duty use, I originally got the ATOM cut and enjoyed it because I swapped from a Micro to a RMR and back. My question is: do I go that route again? My original reasoning was to swap optics as optics for handguns are improving etc. And all I'd have to do is get a new plate to slap the new optic on and viola.

However with the issues with the ACRO battery life, does swapping optics really matter when as of this moment the RMR reigns supreme? Personally I still prefer a Micro for the RDS sight but...different strokes and all that.

I would. I have a couple of Glocks that are directly milled (RMR) and an Atom [cut into the OEM] slide. The latter has not been inferior in any way to direct milled, has actually seen more rounds, no performance difference, and I've three different sights to swap, if I care. My only thought iw whether AOS is a slightly more versatile system (can't speak for durability etc) since we're seeing some of newer optic releases be not compatible with a forward placed BUS.

Right now, I'm finding it hard to find anything that beats a AP Micro or a RMR and those were the two optics that I'd swap between. The only third optic that I'd consider is the holosun which has the same footprint as the RMR so no issues there.

QUestion also is, how much of a difference is there between the MOS and direct milled in height? I know that there is SOME difference but is it distinctly noticeable? And from what I've read/heard lately is that the MOS has improved over its previous iteration that more are choosing it to get into the RDS game vs direct milling.

The MOS is the same. There is no new iteration. What has improved is knowledge on how to properly mount optics via the MOS system, proper screws, torque values, proper thread locker etc.

Some are reporting positive results with the aftermarket MOS plate from C&H as is supposedly better supports the optic.
