That's a shame. I worked for Perot Systems from 1996 to 2000 and met him several times. I always found him to be a frank and honest man, though a bit blunt. Working for his company was a pleasant experience where I was given a huge amount of freedom to do my job in the way I saw fit. I only left because the only way I saw to progress within the company would require moving to Texas for at least a few years.

He owned EDS which had an office in Southfield, MI.

When I first moved to Detroit Metro I knew people who worked for him. They loved the atmosphere as well.

He certainly left his mark on history. A life well-lived.

Rest well.

I voted for him even tho I knew he couldn't win the election. I thought he was a straight shooter. RIP Mr. Perot.

A time for this, unfortunately. Iacocca passed on July 2 at 94.

The man that gave the Clinton crime family global reach.

I disagree.

All three 1992 candidates were running about even in the polls when Perot briefly stepped out of the race. During the time he stepped out, Bush's support remained constant while Clinton's support doubled in the polls. I have seen him blamed for taking votes from Bush, but as a conservative, I was thoroughly disgusted with Bush during that election. The only person responsible for Bush losing that election is George H. W. Bush.

If Perot could be blamed for anything, it would be losing the election himself by stepping out of the race and then trying to re-enter. Had he won that election and run the country like he ran his companies, we would be in a much better place today.

There wouldn't be Donald Trump if not for Ross Perot.

There was a lot of lessons learned in 1992. Most important of them is when you try to run the Republican establishment, against someone with enough money to bankroll themselves, you can split the vote and lose the election. Particularly in the case of a critical state for Republicans (back then, Texas). That lesson was important for Trump to secure the nomination and not split the Republican vote in 2016.

If you think Perot was responsible for Bill Clinton being elected. Think of it this way, he was responsible for Hilary Clinton not being elected, because of the lessons learned during his presidential run.

Ross Perot is a legend, in many respects, to those from Dallas/Ft. Worth. He and his family have been excellent philanthropists over the years. And have given much to develop, particularly the city of Dallas. He will be missed. Fortunately, he leaves behind a legacy of children and family that also give back and remember where they came from. Rest In Peace, Mr. Perot.

He can be credited for the Vietnam POW exhibit in the US Capitol! He initiated and financed it.

Ross did a lot of very good things very quietly, with no publicity or fanfare. he did them simply because he had the ability, connections and finances to do so.

I think you are going to read about some of them in the coming days. He was instrumental in evacuating a LOT of people out of hospitals in New Orleans immediately prior to Katrina.

Cool story of Perot helping a disabled vet (https://www.dallasnews.com/opinion/commentary/2019/07/12/rick-perry-now-ross-perot-gone-can-tell-story)and his family. Don't know much about the guy's politics, but anyone doing this sort of thing behind the scenes is alright in my book.

I'm old enough to have watched his 30 minute flip chart infomercials during the campaign. If I were emperor and not constrained by the First Amendment, the one campaign reform I'd institute is to have that be the only format of political campaign ads allowed on TV. Almost all political ads are a 30 or 60 second spot which only allows time to see the candidate in front of a flag and to say 'If elected I will cut taxes, raise benefits, and balance the budget'. It's harder to carry that kind of nonsense through a 30 minute talk without looking like a doofus. We don't face any problems that can be intelligently discussed in a soundbite, but that is all the discussion candidates do.

Aside #1: Perot also gets kudos for getting his people out of Iran: https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/opinions/1980/06/01/an-iran-rescue-that-worked/493d046d-72e1-4f2f-961c-c18af804ec50/

Aside #2: Perot build EDS into a large computer services company. GM, in it's doldrums days, bought EDS and gave Perot a seat on the GM board, hoping he could infuse GM with some entrepreneurial spirit. Alas, GM proved resistant to the needed transformation, and Perot quit before too long. When asked about the frustrations of working in the GM culture afterwards he said something like "The first EDSer to see a snake kills it. At GM, first thing you do is organize a committee on snakes. Then you bring in a consultant who knows a lot about snakes. Third thing you do is talk about it for a year."
