Depends on the weight in it. Loaded mags, prolly fine. Packed to the brim with ammo, would probably break. This is per individual box.

I used some plastic ammo cans on the road in the RV. Removing them from the coach one evening, one slipped out of my hand. The latch undid itself on impact, spilling about 500 rounds of 124 gr Speer Lawman onto the grass. I was not happy.

Whether these cans are any more robust, I would not know. The design certainly looks similar. YMMV of course.

I only use all steel .30 cal cans now, however.

I have the 3-50 version and love it. Keeps all the junk I want to carry around in the jeep neatly organized.
Thinking of getting a couple more of the 4-30 versions to give to the kid to store his toys in. :D

My current ammo cans can fit over 1k rounds of boxed 9mm. Does anyone know how many rounds each of these boxes can carry? I'm not at my house right now to measure my cans vs their cans. (phrasing!?! is that so not this decade anymore?)

What do people think of these verses the metal ammo cans?

I started out with a few of these, but as I found a deal on metal cans (long term ammo storage), I switched to those and have used the ones I have for magazine storage. Are these good long term storage, range trip use, or how do you use them? (looking for idea's)

I'd say each has their uses.
Metal cans definitely can hold way heavier items, and will take knock around abuse better. plus you can repurpose them into other items in a pinch, like camp stoves and what not.
The plastic MTM cans are bigger for rated size (especially the .50cal ones) which can be both a plus and a minus. I bought one of the triple .50 kits last time at this price, specifically for use in the jeep. A can for my blow out kits, one with a couple cheap blankets, the 3rd with tools and a small 12v pump, all contained in an easy to move skid. I have one of the quad .30cal kits as well, but haven't found a use for it yet; possibly for kid toy storage under his dresser (it fits perfectly, allows him to slide the pack in and out.)
