I just got back from the range this morning where this happened...

The rest of the gun appears to be fine, I just a new barrel. This is a police trade-in G17 that I picked up 2-3 years ago. Would Glock replace this barrel? If not, should I just snag an OEM replacement or go aftermarket?

This is my primary USPSA Production gun right now. I have plans on getting a G17.5 and getting it setup as my primary which would relegate this gun to being dedicated to training/practice. Given it’s age and what just happened, I’ll probably be speeding up when I get the G17.5, but would still like to get this G17.2 back into service.

Tagging in, curious to see if Glock will replace it. If it were mine, I wouldn’t be sore if they didn’t.

Oh neither would I. I’d be surprised if they did. Was just curious if that was even a possibility.

Contact warranty and request instructions. They will almost certainly want to see that gun and replace the barrel for you.

Get the gen5 anyway. Consider a G45 rather than a 17, and perhaps the MOS variant.

Contact warranty and request instructions.

This is what I would do. I'm very curious to see what their response will be. I keep a few spare parts on hand but no barrels.

I'd be very surprised if they didn't give you a new barrel.

I’ve only seen that once before, on a well used G22 gen 3.

I’d be surprised if Glock didn’t replace the barrel.

I expect Glock will ask for the whole pistol be sent in for service and that all of the internals will be replaced at zero cost.

I had a Gen 2 slide crack down through the ejection port. I sent it to Glock and it came back with the original frame and barrel and all other parts were new. :)

Not a barrel, but I have a 6 year old 17.3 Blue Label (can't say it was a dept gun, but it was used) that Glock replaced the frame due to the locking block pin walking out during live fire. It was so loose that the tip of a Bic pen with "writing pressure" would push it out of the frame.

I fully expected to pay the $125 for a new frame, Glock replaced it for free (minus shipping to Smyrna).

Called Glock. They said to ship it to them and that if for whatever reason they didn’t replace it for free that they’d charge me $125 for a new barrel. Given the cheapest I can find a replacement OEM barrel for is $150, I can’t lose.

We’ll see how this goes.

That's a good deal either way. I would've suggested going with an OEM barrel, no matter what. Interested to see what they do.

Just so you know, I've got a friend that ruined a G19.3 by somehow dragging it down a highway.

He sent it to them and they said it was beyond repair. They offered him a G19.5 at a Blue Label sort of price. It worked well for him being a Southpaw and he was most pleased with the service and price he paid.

I'm wanting to say high three's on the price so if you have to lay out cash for the barrel, might want to see what the Gen 5 upgrade cost is.

Regards.

Just got off the phone with Glock. It sounds like they’re replacing the barrel for free. Should be shipped back within 2-4 weeks.

Good on them.

One of the many reasons Glock rules the LE handgun world.

I just got a tracking number from FedEx. The gun should be back to me by Monday.

Got the G17.2 in last night. New Gen4 barrel and internals and no charge. That’s pretty damn awesome. They even put fresh new green fiber in my front sight. Now I just have to relube all the trigger bits, put my grip plug and extended mag release back in, and I’m ready to rock and roll.

That level of service is what I have learned to expect from Glock. Back when I lived near Smyrna, one could buy a pre-owned Glock, drive to the facility, get escorted by the guard, drop off the pistol, pay something like $60 for night sights, and the whole pistol came back with new internals and the sights. Once all of my magazines with the pistol were replaced because they had older versions of the follower inside. I had an E-prefix frame that was subject to the recall, called to order the frame, got the call a few months later, and took the pistol to Smyrna. That pistol was totally rebuilt, and it got a new box, extra magazines, and some other Glock paraphernalia.

Wow, just...wow. I mean, with service like that and being a GSSF member, it’s really easy to see how some people could become legitimate rabid Glock fans.
