I retired from the position a few years ago. Good job, excellent pay, overtime is double time. Happiness level will depend on location. Lots of TDY opportunities. Mandatory retirement age is 57. Journeyman is GS-12. Where else can you go in federal civil service with only a high school diploma and be making six figures (with OT) after about five years on the job ?
