I’m an enabler. If I hadn’t just bought a 2” 64 as a project, I’d buy one of these.

Does anyone know what the difference in the second number means (the 3, the 5, and the 6)? I did a little digging earlier today, but I couldn't find anything other than forum pages from other sites. The threes have a pinned barrel apparently?
They all have the same barrel length, so my gut reaction of it referring to a barrel was not right.

There’s a new shipment and all the junkies are gonna get well. Where have I heard that before ;-)

The -# is how S&W used to indicate design/engineering updates. They would move a blast shield, delete a screw, or barrel pin, and that would be indicated by a new -#.
Any of them would be fine shooters, and I am tempted.

64-6 1998- MIM hammer, floating firing pin, internal change
64-7 2002- Key lock
64-8 2004- 2 piece barrel

I bought two of the ones that Southern Ohio sold late in `17, so I'll pass.
They are fine guns.

These are law enforcement trade-ins from overseas. Anyone have enough experience with those to guess if/how these may be marked?

I'm having delusions of getting one of those done up like DB did with the HiTS Defensive Revolver (https://pistol-forum.com/showthread.php?22652-HiTS-Defensive-Revolver)

I have shot both of those, Wayne and Darryl were kind enough to let me do so.
To say that they are fine fighting revolvers is an epic understatement. They are truly superb.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know where these came from?

I'm only slightly green with envy there. Since my budget isn't going to let me sink that kind of money into a gun anytime soon, I'll live vicariously through others.
Is it just me, or does anyone else just totally disregard anything "at" AIM Surplus?
It feels like no matter how fast I click that email link - if it was something cool, it's sold out.

You got to get up really early to beat the FUDS on the S&W Forum. The only chance is that AIM posts the items during dinner time (2-4pm) or after bedtime at 6. If not...it’s a waste.

Part of me is really glad those revolvers are sold out. I was getting mighty tempted there for a minute.

FUDS hell!. I think it's a certain person with a cat avatar that's buying them up, and then she sells them to FUDS at what I call a FUD markup. I hear she keeps the nice ones for herself. That's what I'm told.

I have a couple of these trade-in 64s. Neither is worth investing in as a project gun. It would seem that what made Wayne and DB's project really work was getting to sit in the warehouse and go through the stacks looking for the best two guns to start with. Not worth it if you don't get to control the quality of your raw material, IMO.

I rolled the dice years back on a Izzy BHP. Looking back, it was a heck of a crap shoot. It turned out well, but it could have been a costly lesson. There is a “vegas-esque” draw to the gamble that gives you a tingle however...

FWIW, that also applies to buying a brand new S&W you haven't pre-inspected.

Buying a gun online is a crapshoot. I also bought an ex-Israeli BHP, it’s a nice gun. But I’ve also been burned.

They sure went up in price fast. I am happy as hell that I bought from SOG at the end of ‘17 when they were sub-$250.
